The effects of certain operational variables on working time and skidder productivity in wood extraction in Eucalyptus grandis stands were investigated in this research. The study was conducted at a forestry plantation located in the municipality of Telêmaco Borba, Paraná State. Through a time and motion study the operational cycle time, mechanical availability, operational efficiency and productivity in relation to the variables volume, cycle time and extraction distance were quantified. The data were analyzed using Tukey's test at 5% probability and then fitted to a statistical model to explain the behavior of the variables in terms of machine productivity. Results showed that the time consumed by the empty and loaded travel phases was 20.4 and 45.0% of the total operational cycle time, respectively. Extraction distance directly affected the elements of operational cycle time and machine productivity, making it an important variable to consider in operational planning. The independent variables used explained around 82% of the skidder productivity variation, with the proposed model being suitable for use in wood extraction under similar conditions.

This study aimed to test the method of multi-criteria analysis, in the platform of the Geographic Information System (GIS), to perform mapping in levels of suitability for the mechanized harvesting of eucalyptus forests. The study was carried out using eucalyptus stands for cellulose production in the State of Minas Gerais, Brazil. The main factors that influenced the mechanized forest harvesting were determined, as well as the technical and environmental constraints. The quantitative factors (declivity, productivity of the plots, volume per tree, age of planting and number of trees per hectare) were standardized using fuzzy logic. To combine the factors, weights for each of them were established through the AHP (Analytic Hierarchy Process) technique. From these weights, Weighted Linear Combination (WLC) was performed and a map of suitability for mechanized forest harvesting was generated. The mapping process allowed to classify the forest area into five suitability classes: very low (0.2%); low (3.3%); average (15.2%); high (53.0%) and very high (28.3%). The declivity factor was the criterion that most influenced the spatialization in the areas of suitability for forest harvesting with the harvester. The method of multi-criteria analysis has been shown to be an efficient tool to create maps of suitability for the operation with the harvester and to support wood harvest planning by identifying areas that tend to have lower or higher productivity.

RESUMO ABSTRACTThis work evaluated the mechanical maintenance activity of a feller buncher using World Class Maintenance (WCM), which uses preventive maintenance as a premise, aiming at reducing production costs and making better use of available resources. The study was carried out in Pinus taeda and Eucalyptus grandis stands of a forest company located in Paraná State, Brazil. The analysis contemplated three subsequent periods of six months, being: implantation, ripening, and stabilization of the WCM model. The evaluation was performed through the determination of mechanical availability, hydraulic oil consumption, and maintenance costs. The results showed that there was an increase in mechanical equipment availability of 1.75%. For the consumption of hydraulic oil, after the implementation period, there was a 63% reduction, reflecting the preventive maintenance carried out during the activities. The maintenance cost in the WCM model showed a 14.4% reduction, due to the investment of infrastructure and training of mechanics and operators. The WCM model showed applicability in the maintenance of forest cutting equipment, with potential for improving operational safety, productive capacity, and increasing their useful life.
