Plant growth, yield and fruit quality of Clementine mandarin selections under subtropical climate in Brazil

Abstract: In Brazil, few mandarin (Citrus reticulata, Blanco) cultivars are being currently exploited, limiting the availability of fresh fruit in the local market. This study was aimed to investigate the performance of 15 Clementine mandarin selections and 3 hybrids, seeking for alternative varieties for production under subtropical conditions. Fifteen Clementine selections, namely: ‘Oroval-SRA335’, ‘Tomatera-SRA535’, ‘Reina-SRA534’, ‘Bruno-SRA531’, ‘Nules-SRA389’, ‘Ragheb-SRA386’, ‘Oroval-Y45’, ‘2-Kr-Monreal’, ‘Commun… Show more

“…'Nova', 'Page' and 'Piemonte' were the least alternating hybrids, with IAP values of 0.17, 0.20 and 0.22, respectively, while 'Murcott' showed the highest alternation, 0.32 (Table 2). Several clementines and their hybrids have relatively low alternation rate among mandarin species (SILVA et al, 2018), as observed in this study.…”

“…Color‐break in Kinnow mandarin changes fruit internal quality parameters and is still used as a tool in judging the maturity and quality of fruit in the domestic market . In advanced countries, color along with citrus fruit's other quality attributes are used for fruit harvesting and marketing at domestic and external level …”

“…10 In advanced countries, color along with citrus fruit's other quality attributes are used for fruit harvesting and marketing at domestic and external level. 11,12 Climatic factors unpredictability do effect color-break in citrus. 13,14 In warm regions, color-break is deferred with faded coloration 15 and citrus peel remains green in tropical regions.…”
