Initial performance of corn in response to treatment of seeds with humic acids isolated from bokashi

Abstract: The humified organic matter presents bioactivity similar to the auxinic effect. As bokashi is produced by a special process of humification, information is needed about the bioactive potential of its humic acids. The objective of this work was studying the initial performance of corn-indicator plants in response to the application of different concentrations of humic acids isolated from bokashi. The corn seeds were treated for 16 hours with solutions containing 0, 10, 20, 30, 40 and 80 mmol L-1 of C in the for… Show more

“…Therefore, at this early stage of development, a better absorption of N induced by these acids culminated in plant growth promotion. Similar results were observed by Baldotto and Baldotto (2016) [33] in corn plants at the early stage of development. However, in the later stages of development (60 and 90 DAS), these acids lost their effectiveness in relation to inoculation treatments, with regard to accumulation of fresh mass, dry mass, and productivity.…”

“…For the organic residues, the maximum height was 27.33 cm at 150 DAT in the plants grown in PMH with bokashi. The increased height of marmelo-do-cerrado plants grown in the substrate soil and poultry manure with wood shavings as the base and with bokashi might be related to the greater use of nutrients (Tables 1 and 2) by the plants (Baldotto & Baldotto, 2016). Without bokashi, there was little variation of plant growth in the substrates (Figure 1b).…”

“…Bokashi is a balanced blend of organic matter of vegetable and/or animal origin subjected to a fermentation process controlled by favorable microorganisms (Baldotto & Baldotto, 2016). The agricultural effects of bokashi are associated with increased cation exchange capacity, soil pH and faster availability of nutrients (Boechat et al, 2013).…”

“…In Passi ora edulis L., 16% of Bokashi showed signi cant initial growth and development (Bócoli et al, 2020). Humic acids extracted from bokashi showed positive effects on the initial performance of maize (Baldotto and Baldotto, 2016).…”
