Growth of the Anchovy Anchoa tricolor in a brazilian subtropical estuary

Abstract: This study aimed to describe the growth parameters of Anchoa tricolor in a subtropical estuary. From August 2010 to July 2011, 10.009 specimens of the anchovy Anchoa tricolor, mean total length 4.2 cm (±1.45), were captured in the intertidal region of the Estuarine Complex of Paranaguá (25º 15' - 25° 35' S and 48° 20' - 48° 45' W). Species´s weight/length relationship for grouped genders was described as follow: W = 0.0000591.Lt3.282 (length in centimeters; weight in grams) showing a positive allometric growth… Show more

“…Osório Duabily and Báez Hidalgo (2002b) and Souza-Conceição and Schwingel (2011) demonstrated that Cetengraulis edentulus has a short life cycle. While the k values for other engraulids (Carvalho et al 2018) may be higher than the one reported herein, this value corroborates the expected for a small pelagic species. Clupeiformes community of Guanabara Bay.…”

“…When the estimated the growth rate (k = 0.70 year -1 ) and longevity (A 0.95 = 4.28 years -1 ) of the population of A. surinamensis of the Cujubim Lake were observed, it was found that these values were similar to those reported by Carvalho et al (2018) for Anchoa mitchilli (k = 0.60, A 0.95 = 4.6 year -1 ) and to data from Fishbase (Froese and Pauly, 2021) for Anchoa spinifer (k = 0.63, A 0.95 = 4.6 year -1 ). Both species were caught at the Western Atlantic.…”
