The improvement of bioactive secondary metabolites accumulation in Rumex gmelini Turcz through co-culture with endophytic fungi

Abstract: Aspergillus sp., Fusarium sp., and Ramularia sp. were endophytic fungi isolated from Rumex gmelini Turcz (RGT), all of these three strains could produce some similar bioactive secondary metabolites of their host. However the ability to produce active components degraded significantly after cultured these fungi alone for a long time, and were difficult to recover. In order to obtain more bioactive secondary metabolites, the co-culture of tissue culture seedlings of RGT and its endophytic fungi were established … Show more

“…Accumulated evidence established that endophytes are capable of eliciting physiological plant responses, which in turn influence the production of secondary metabolites in the host plant [110]. The production of bioactive secondary metabolites of Rumex gmelini seedlings is enhanced through coculture with endophytic fungi [111]. An endophytic bacterium Pseudonocardia sp.…”

“…Infected D. nobile and D. officinale samples were used for visual histopathological assessment of endophytic fungi by staining the infected tissues using a method modified from Ding et al [36]. Infected seedling segments were stained using lactophenol cotton blue to identify the tissue infected with endophytic fungi.…”
