Purpose: The purposes of this study were to check the obesity of middle and high school students in the nation and identify factors influencing their obesity. Methods: The present study is a secondary analysis research that obtained permission to use the primitive data of 10th (2014) Online Survey on Adolescents' Health Behaviors by the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and analyzed the primitive data according to the purposes. Results: The findings show that the BMI of middle and high school students in the nation was 20.7 kg/m 2 with the obesity and non-obesity group recording 27.0 kg/m 2 and 19.9 kg/m 2 , respectively. Factors influencing the obesity of adolescents include gender, grade, educational background of parent, school grades for the last 12 months, satisfaction with sleep, fast food consumption, ramen consumption, intense and muscle exercise three times a week or more, subjective sense of health, stress, suicidal ideation, and hours of Internet usage per week. Conclusion: For the management of adolescent obesity, there is a need for obesity management programs taking the characteristics of male students into consideration. The possibilities of obesity grow according to the grades, which means that both the teachers and parents should offer more guidance on weight control in upper grades. The adjustment of adolescent obesity requires psychological health management including stress and suicidal ideation as well as diet control and exercise. It is also needed to apply a stepwise obesity management program according to the hours of internet usage and dependence on the internet.
This study examined influencing factors on the attitudes toward elders with a focus on empathy. Data were gathered from 291 nurses working at 14 geriatric hospitals in Kyunggi-Do, Chungchung-Do and Incheon. In analyzing the data, Pearson correlation coefficients, t-test, ANOVA, and regression analysis were adopted. Attitudes toward elders were neutral on the average; those nurses revealed both positive and negative aspects such as friendly, good, kind, conservative, sick and dependent. Of the four empathy scales, only empathic concern revealed significant correlation with the attitudes toward elders. Regression model included empathic concern and the nurses' characteristics. Empathic concern was significant in predicting the attitudes toward elders after controlling for the effects of the nurses' characteristics. Experience of voluntary work for elders was the only predictor among individual characteristics. Explanatory power of the model was 10.7%. We need to develop intervention programs raising empathy among nurses. The instrument measuring empathy needs to be examined.
Purpose: This study is performed to help manage the metabolic syndrome in work place by identifying the effect on metabolic syndrome with subjects of Korean adult workers. Methods: Using part of data of "The Fourth Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination survey 2nd year (2008)" which center for disease control is investigating. The general characteristics include age, educational level, occupation and marital status as factors affecting the metabolic syndrome of workers in this study. Results: Work-related factors are the working environment in which they are working while they are pressed for time due to work status and overload. If the work status of worker is unpaid family member, the risk is increased by more than twice compared to paid workers. The risk for metabolic syndrome in work environment to work while fighting the clock is decreased compared to the work environment without time pressure. Conclusion: In order to manage the metabolic syndrome of workers, health promotion program to change management of both working condition and working environment can contribute to prevent the metabolic syndrome and ultimately prevent the cerebrocardiovascular diseases.
This study was conducted to identify the effect of nurses' empathy on their job stress. The subjects of this study were 192 nurses working at 5 general hospitals. The empathy and job stress were surveyed by using structured questionnaire from June 1 to August 31, 2014. The nurses' overall job stress was 3.86 out of 5 and among the domains of job stress, stress of relationship with patients and their carer was 4.22, stress of relationship with medical doctors was 4.21, and stress related to nursing tasks was 4.01. Factors influencing job stress were gender, pay satisfaction, perceived amount of workload, and fantasy from empathy. These findings suggest that in order to improve clinical nurses' job stress, there should be organizational efforts to regulate the pay level and workload and to develop programs for lowering perceived job stress among nurses by managing fantasy from empathy.
