Forestier’s disease, or diffuse idiopathic skeletal hyperostosis, is a chronic, slowly progressive, non-inflammatory disease of the musculoskeletal system, the pathogenesis of which is based on excessive ossification of ligaments and tendons, leading to ankylosis. The prevalence of Forestier’s disease among patients over 70 years old is quite high – 10% among men and 6.7% among women. Forestier’s disease has nonspecific clinical manifestations. In the case of pronounced ossification of the anterior and posterior longitudinal ligaments and the associated compression of the spinal cord, the clinical manifestations of the disease may include myelopathy, paresis, and dysfunction of the pelvic organs. The description of the case of Forestier’s disease in this article can focus the attention of medical specialists and improve their knowledge about this nosological form to avoid mistakes in diagnostics and choose the most optimal treatment tactics.
