The decrease in children’s interest in reading is a global and national problem, which causes noticeable social risks in the children personal development and their further social integration. The paper considers popularization of books and formation of reading culture as important tasks of contemporary library-information activities. The authors emphasize that modern library visitors prefer electronic sources of information that actualizes the development and use of electronic information products in the practice of library services for children and youth. The purpose of the article is to determine the possibilities of using multimedia library products in attracting children to reading. The paper presents the results of the analysis of publication activity in 2014—2018 devoted to the attracting children to reading, including the use of multimedia. The authors draw attention to 33 publications, reflecting various aspects of reading promotion in children’s audience, as well as reveal the tendency of decrease in publication activity on this subject. The sociological survey of 150 children of primary school age allowed to determine their basic reading preferences and confirmed the importance of reading in the life of modern children. The paper notes that the results of study of reading interests of younger schoolchildren should be taken into account in the implementation of different forms of library work with users and should be used in the creation of information products aimed at popularization of books. The authors explain the relevance of using interactive multimedia products to attract children to reading: preference to children playing activities, combination of multimedia multiple information types and available interactivity. The paper considers the types of multimedia library products, approbated in the course of activities to attract children to reading, analyses their opportunities in involving children in reading and reveals their advantages and features. The authors characterize different types of interactive activities, give the examples of their use, as well as describe multimedia product abilities in attracting children to reading, their advantages and disadvantages. The paper concludes that the use of interactive multimedia products contributes to attract children to reading and can serve as a supplement to traditional library activities, as well can be used independently.
User service by means of multimedia is an actual direction of library practice. Modern forms of interaction with the user have wide functionality, attract readers, form the image of an information institution and provide comfortable service conditions. The analysis of the experience of libraries in the creation and use of multimedia products allows the identification of main trends in the use of multimedia in library practice, studying the range of existing multimedia products, their features, advantages and typical errors. The purpose of the work is to study the foreign experience of creating and using multimedia products in servicing library users. In the course of the research, the following methods were used: analysis of the document flow based on the study of foreign professional periodicals, analysis of the websites of foreign national libraries, comparative analysis of foreign and domestic experience in presenting multimedia products on library websites. Foreign experience is considered on the basis of publications presented in foreign professional periodicals and analysis of multimedia sites of foreign national libraries. Multimedia products of domestic libraries are considered based on the analysis of the assortment presented on the websites of libraries of various levels and departmental affiliation. The description of the features of the implementation of multimedia products and their specific assortment is given. The analysis of publication activity on the problem under consideration and the thematic distribution of publications are presented, foreign journals with the largest number of articles on the research topic are identified. It is established that the issues of creating and using multimedia products are relevant not only for domestic, but also for foreign library practice. The interest of foreign authors in providing services in a remote format is noted. The creation and use of multimedia products in publications is mainly presented by the example of describing the experience of national libraries and libraries of educational institutions. The paper analyzes in detail the range and features of the implementation of multimedia products on the websites of foreign libraries in comparison with domestic library practice. The common types of multimedia products presented by foreign libraries and their difference from similar domestic ones are revealed. The forms of information presentation and additional features implemented in multimedia products are considered. It can be noted that the websites of foreign libraries do not reveal unique multimedia products that are not typical for domestic library practice, at the same time, a number of features in the presentation of information and the species assortment are noted.
One of the performance indicators of higher education institutions is publication activity of scientific and pedagogical staff in journals indexed by the international scientometric databases Web of Science and Scopus. Of particular interest is the study of the possibility of publications in foreign journals with a high quartile. The issue of foreign publications is acute for domestic researchers of library and information activities. The study identified 227 foreign journals that reflect the category “Library and information sciences” and publish information in English. There were selected for study 130 journals indexed in the Web of Science. The analysis of indicators of professional foreign periodicals allowed to make the rating of journals that are relevant for publishing scientific articles on teaching the library disciplines. The detailed analysis of the topics of publications in the identified journals helped to determine specialized foreign periodicals on library and information issues. During the analysis, there were selected the professional journals that reflect the results of research in the field of principal disciplines of the mandatory part of the bachelor’s degree program in “Library and information activities”.The article considers the topics of specialized professional periodicals of foreign countries. For the selected publications, the author compiled the comparative table of the thematic distribution of publications with chronological coverage of 10 years that allowed identifying thematic headings with high publication activity. The article presents the analysis of territorial distribution of journals and identifies the leading foreign publishers. The author briefly highlights the features of publication placement in foreign journals. Based on information provided on the information and analytical portal eLIBRARY.ru, the author conducted the assessment of placement of publications by leading researchers in the field of library science in identified periodicals. The article presents the results of analytical review of the main foreign journals indexed by Web of Science and related to the first and second quartile, which publish articles in English and reflect issues in library and information sphere. The author established that publication in foreign professional periodicals can be implemented by domestic researchers and teachers of library and information disciplines, both in the analysed journals and other specialized publications and journals in related scientific fields.
The article presents the results of testing the complex methodology of assessment of quality of electronic books exhibitions (EBE). The author describes the project of the expert system, allowing to implement the EBE assessment without the experts’ participation. There is given the comparison of the results of assessments, carried out by experts and by the expert system.
Currently, the range of information products and services provided remotely is developing and expanding. Modern library users often prefer remote services to traditional forms. The real communication is inferior to virtual one, the popularity of electronic information products is growing. Libraries transform popular traditional products and services into electronic formats. So traditional quizzes, which are popular in libraries, are moving into a new form, become a dynamically developing electronic product. The popularity and demand of multimedia products for modern users led to emerging a wide range of such products in the library practice. Multimedia capabilities combine different forms of information and provide visibility, visual appeal and increase interest among users. The most original of them are the products with interactive features that provide the opportunity to dialogue with users and implement active actions. The most popular are such interactive multimedia products as an electronic interactive exhibition, a multimedia interactive quiz, a video with interactive elements. Libraries can also develop such products without extensive software, hardware and human resources. To ensure the quality of the created interactive multimedia products, it is necessary to study the technology of their preparation. Based on the interactive multimedia works created by students the author considers their features, cases of interactive opportunities realization; characterizes the experience to form of skills of technology of their preparation at bachelors of library and information activity. Actively developing of remote library services using information-communicating technologies, transforming traditional forms into multimedia format contributes to the development of interactive multimedia forms, as well as allows attracting users and increase the demand for documents. Game forms of work with readers are especially relevant for children and youth audience. Development and implementtation of multimedia interactive product is economically less labor-intensive process than the traditional library event.
