Nutritional imbalance is common in patients with metabolic diseases. The iodine supply draws attention among the nutritional factors affecting the metabolic profile. The aim of the work was to evaluate the effect of the drink enriched with iodine and hydrogen on iodine supply in patients with metabolic syndrome (MetS). Nutrition was assessed in 107 persons with MetS, years) were included in the interventional study with "Vodis" drink enriched with iodine and hydrogen. The level of thyrotropin, thyroid hormones, thyroglobulin and antibodies to it in the blood serum were measured. Sonography of the thyroid gland was performed. Patients of the main group (20 people) received the drink "Vodis" in the amount of 990 ml per day (divided into three doses) for two months. Patients of the control group (20 people) -received drinking water, the base for the drink "Vodis". An imbalance in the nutrition of patients with MetS is characterized by increased consumption of fat -from 37,7 to 44,4 % of the daily energy intake and a deficiency of some micronutrients. The intake of zinc, cobalt and vitamins -retinol, beta-carotene, vitamin D, thiamine and folic acid was insufficient. Iodine intake was 38-50 % of recommended and the highest intake was in males of middle age -74,4 (44,3-101,7) μg per day. The interventional study revealed an increased content of serum thyroglobulin (more than 13 μg / l) in 30 % of the patients, which reflects insufficient iodine intake. Higher baseline thyroid volume was associated with increased thyroglobulin level. The use of the drink enriched with iodine and hydrogen was accompanied by a decrease in the thyroglobulin level (p = 0.002) in the absence of changes in the thyroid gland volume and the level of thyroid panel hormones. Patients with MetS had unbalanced consumption of macronutrients and micronutrients that are important for the thyroid gland functioning. Median iodine intake was 38-50 % of the recommended level. The decrease of the serum thyroglobulin in patients with MetS who consumed the "Vodis" drink indicates an improvement in the iodine supply.
