Relevance. Humanity has been confronted with the global spread of dangerous viral diseases for centuries. Today a new coronavirus, SARSCoV-2, has been added to the list of potentially pandemic pathogens. The purpose of the article is to highlight, as much as possible, the physical and chemical properties of coronavirus, its epidemiology, framework for the disease prevention and treatment in various population groups and healthcare workers. The article provides a list of regulatory documents, a detailed guidance for healthcare professionals on how to act in case of identifying a patient with suspected COVID-19 in healthcare facilities, and a description of the coronavirus disease outbreak situation in the world and in the Russian Federation.Conclusions. The sanitary protection of the territories of the countries represents the main way to shield a population from a dangerous infectious disease. Therefore, the collaboration of physicians from all over the world and constant exchange of information among them is of crucial importance. The COVID-19 pandemic requires decisive, coordinated, global quarantine measures; biological protection of the population, collaboration on the vaccine’s development and treatment methods, and joining efforts against the panic and misinformation.

PPV23 is generally safe, well tolerated, and highly immunogenic when given as a single dose to Russian individuals 50 y of age and older, as well as Russian individuals 2 to 49 y of age who are at high risk for PD.
Aim. Immunoprevention represents a well-established tool to prevent and eliminate life-threatening infectious diseases. However, low adherence in the population is a major obstacle to achieve the full coverage of preventive vaccinations. Here we studied the adherence of various population groups and healthcare workers to vaccination.Materials and Methods. We conducted an original survey among 1147 university students, 214 parents and 512 physicians.Results. Among the students of humanitarian and technical faculties, only 33% and 37% respectively showed a positive attitude to immunoprevention. This indicator, however, was higher in medical students and physicians (76% and 80%, respectively). Overall awareness of all population groups on immunization is insufficient to perform such measures efficiently. The reasons of low adherence include anti-vaccine propaganda, negative attitude and lack of awareness of healthcare workers on immunoprevention efficiency.Conclusion. Further large efforts are urgently needed to increase the adherence to immunization both in general population and healthcare professionals. The primary task is to eliminate the lack of information on the role and importance of immunization in maintaining population health.
The article presents an analysis of theoretical generalizations in epidemiologists at all stages of its development and development. It is shown that the components that make up the content of the subject of epidemiology have evolved in the understanding of their essence, in particular, causality, the mechanism of development and epidemiological manifestations. Representations and terminology about the content and essence of the subject have changed: from the epidemic, to the epidemic process, and, finally, to the population level of organization of pathology and human health (morbidity and public health). The greatest scientific discussions and intellectual struggle of opinions passed through the whole history of science. The concepts that prevailed in the ancient world, the Middle Ages, in the 20th century and theoretical generalizations in epidemiology of the modern period are presented. Problems were revealed and directions for further research in the field of theory and practice of epidemiology were suggested.

В. This economic evaluation assesses the cost-effectiveness and budget impact of introducing a two-dose varicella vaccine in the Russian national immunization program. A static Markov model followed a simulated 2019 Russian cohort over its lifetime and compared outcomes and costs of three varicella vaccination strategies: strategy I (doses given at 12 and 15 months of age), strategy II (doses given at 1 year and 6 years of age), and a no vaccination scenario. Inputs on age-dependent clinical pathways, associated costs, and related health outcomes were collected from national sources and published literature. Results are presented as incremental cost-effectiveness ratio (ICER) from the healthcare payer and societal perspective over the lifetime of the birth cohort and the budget impact over a 10 years’ time horizon. Vaccination strategies I and II resulted in an ICER of approximately 1.7 million rubles per quality-adjusted life years gained from the healthcare payer perspective and were cost-saving from the societal perspective. From the healthcare payer perspective, the costs per varicella case averted were 5,989 and 7,140 rubles per case for strategies I and II, respectively. However, from the societal perspective, vaccination is a dominant strategy and the budget impact analysis shows significant healthcare savings over 10 years, with strategy I realizing savings of ~2 billion rubles more than strategy II. From a public health impact perspective, varicella vaccination of children at 12 and 15 months of age through the Russian NIP is expected to be cost-effective with an affordable budget impact compared to no vaccination.
