В статье представлены результаты палеогеографических и океанологических экспедиционных исследований косы Долгой Азовского моря, полученные в 2021 г. Комплекс проводившихся мероприятий состоял из бурения скважин, измерения морских течений и термохалинной структуры прилегающих вод, отбора гидрохимических, гидробиологических, литологических проб и археологических работ. При любом направлении ветра у западного (азовоморского) берега косы Долгой существует постоянное вдольбереговое течение. При западном ветре оно является дрейфовым, при восточном – компенсационным. Такой характер течений способствует транспортировке ракушечного материала с Елениной и Железинской банок и продуктов абразии с западного коренного берега. Приведены новые данные о строении разрезов скважин из различных районов косы Долгой. В нижних горизонтах скважин, пробуренных у основания косы, а также в лагунах, были отобраны пробы воды, общая минерализация в которых вдвое превышает соленость Азовского моря. Верхний водоносный горизонт островов косы Долгой хорошо промывается водами Азовского моря. Проведенные исследования островов позволили выявить различия в их строении, составе отложений и донной фауны. Отмеченные особенности стратиграфии и состава наносов, слагающих островные гряды, объясняются различиями их физико-механических характеристик и литодинамическими условиями транспортировки осадочного материала. Отложения островов в основном сложены ракушечным детритом различной степени раздробленности, органогенно-детритусовыми песками и отдельными створками раковин. В составе раковинного материала отложений преобладают створки моллюска Cerastoderma. Находки археологических артефактов на островной части косы относятся к различным эпохам и датируются II веком до н.э. и XIII–XIV веками н.э.
