Рассмотрены основные этапы формирования физиологического направления в изучении цикла бодрствование-сон (ЦБС) на основе целей и задач эволюционной физиологии, которые обозначил Л.А. Орбели, и их влияние на формирование взглядов И.Г. Кармановой относительно предмета эволюционной сомнологии. Эволюционная сомнология осуществляет сравнительные исследования ЦБС холоднокровных и теплокровных позвоночных, изучает закономерности и этапы формирования фаз сна, терморегуляторных и других вегетативных реакций в постнатальном онтогенезе. На основе фило- и онтогенетических исследований И.Г. Карманова сформулировала гипотезу об эволюции сна в подтипе позвоночных, проанализировала центральные механизмы регуляции таких форм поведения млекопитающих, как сон, спячка, каталепсия, кататония, катаплексия. Также рассмотрены вопросы гомологии этих явлений изначальным, первичным формам охранительного поведения холоднокровных. Приводятся примеры функциональной и патологической диссолюции ЦБС, которые позволили И.Г. Кармановой создать диссолюционную теорию.
В результате анализа нарушений сна у пациентов с каталептическим синдромом шизофрении, нарколепсией и болезнью Жиля де ля Туретта, когда проявляются формы сна, типичные для пойкилотермных позвоночных, И.Г. Карманова предложила эволюционно-диссолюционный подход к анализу сна. Он помогает не только определить характер нарушений ЦБС, но и проанализировать связанные с ним патогенетические механизмы нарушений центральной нервной системы. Кроме того, на основании исследований формирования биоэлектрической активности сна в онтогенезе новорожденных крыс были выделены периоды, соответствующиеуровням морфологического и функционального развития нервной системы в филогенезе позвоночных.
Во второй части обзора по эволюции цикла бодрствование-сон рассмотрены литературные и собственные данные о нейромедиаторных и нейрогормональных механизмах его регуляции. Отмечены оригинальные работы авторов по сравнительным морфологическим и иммуногистохимическим особенностям состояния дофамин-, глутамат- и ГАМК-ергических нейромедиаторных систем в диэнцефальных и телэнцефальных отделах головного мозга в условиях сондепривационного стресса и постдепривационного сна и по морфофункциональному состоянию вазопрессин(вазотоцин)- и окситоцин(мезотоцин)-ергической систем диэнцефалона в цикле бодрствование-сон у холоднокровных и теплокровных позвоночных. По мере становления структурной дифференциации переднемозговых отделов и развития диэнцефальных и стволовых систем в филогенезе степень совместности в локализации нейромедиаторных систем заметно снижается. Происходит дифференциация нейромедиаторных систем, их разделение на тормозные и активирующие за счет формирования большого разнообразия специфических рецепторов. В конечном счете, все это способствует формированию многоуровневых систем запуска и поддержания высокоэффективных бодрствования и сна.
