The problem of stability of plants of the onion to the most nocuous diseases acquired in the world a paramount value. Untrue mealy dew or peronosporoz onion related to their number, astonishes many kinds of the sort Allium L. and, primarily, onion napiform. Information of presence of immune grades of the onion of napiform are absent, are just of the grade with various level of stability. In years, the favorable for development of this disease, it can cause larger losses at cultivation a sevka, onions turnip and seeds. This disease almost everywhere is widespread. The activator of a peronosporoz is the mushroom of Peronospora destructor (Berk) of Casp. the typical obligate parasite living and eating on the growing plants and striking leaves and flower-colored. Use of expensive chemical means of struggle just limits dissemination of peronosporoz, but radically does not solve the problem of protection of plants, not to mention deterioration in an ecological situation. At selection of the onion of napiform to resistance to peronosporoz interspecific hybridization is the most promising, though this way is long and difficult. The main purpose with the use of interspecific hybridization is creation of forms combining presence of stored bulbs and with high resistance to peronosporoz and sufficient a fecundity. The pollen of plants for transfer of genes supervising high stability and high content they be valuable substances from multi-annual onions to the onion to napiform. In the article results of joint researches of the laboratory of selection of onions cultures, genetics and cytology, immunity of the All-Russian Scientific Research Institute of selection and seed farming of vegetable cultures (VNIISSOK) on development of methods of interspecific hybridization and creation of the forms of interspecific hybrids combining presence of stored bulb with high resistance to peronosporoz, the technology of selection process, results of selection and interspecific hybrids of the onion created in the VNIISSOK and approved to use in various Russia regions are presented.
The article presents information about the research directions, the results of work and achievements in the selection of onion crops in the Federal State Budgetary Scientific Institution "Federal Scientific Vegetable Center". Brief historical information is given about the work of the outstanding scientists who headed the laboratory – V.V. Ordynsky, A.D. Plinka, I. I. Yershov, A.F. Agafonov. At present, new varieties and hybrids of onion crops of domestic selection that meet all the requirements are required for industrial production. The FSBSI FSVC is working on studying the breeding material of onion crops and identifying promising ones with a complex of economically valuable characteristics for creating fundamentally new, competitive varieties and hybrids for various zones of the Russian Federation. Selection of individual types of bows is carried out: onions – for early maturation, consistently high yield, high dry matter content (17-22%), keeping quality, resistance to peronosporosis, cervical and bacterial rot, with a different rate of reaction to the length of the day, for winter and spring crops, in sowing culture – with a cold method of storing sowing, good keeping quality; perennial onions – winter hardiness, high productivity of green mass, high content of biologically active substances and high resistance to diseases; winter garlic – winter hardiness, yield, resistance to fusarium and bacteriosis, keeping quality during storage; spring garlic – high yield of large cloves, high shelf life; shallots –ultra-fast ripeness, high productivity, keeping quality during storage. The results of the long-term work of the FSVC were 140 varieties of 16 types of onion crops of various uses. Modern varieties of onion for industrial cultivation were created and submitted to the State Variety Testing in 2020: F1 Drakon, AFBAK.
Molecular markers were used for screening of the onion plants of VNIISSOK's breeding for cytoplasmic male sterility. Allelic variations of the mitochondrial genes orfА501 and cob were reveled among studied onion samples. Use of the PCR-markers for these genes allowed identifying the cytoplasmic types of 14 onion genotypes. Application of these molecular markers in breeding program could help to select genotypes wit certain type of cytoplasm and may be useful for high throughput identification of cytoplasmic male sterile factors in large onion breeding populations.
One of the main directions of onion crops breeding in the world is heterosis breeding. Heterosis hybrids occupy the main place in the commodity production of onions in the Netherlands, USA, Japan and other countries. In State Register for Selection Achievements Admitted for Usage (National List) of the Russian Federation, admitted to use in 2018, made 378 cultivar of onions, including 188 (49.7%) – F1 hybrids, of which 140 – foreign breeding. A common way to create heterosis hybrids F1 onions is the use of lines with cytoplasmic male sterility (CMS) as one of the parent forms. The article presents the results of multi-year research of the laboratory of breeding and seed production of onion cultures (VNIISSOK, now FSBSI FSVC) to assess and highlight the lines of CMS onions with high combinational ability, the creation of heterosis hybrids on their basis. In 2002-2005, 229 cultivar of onion were studied to identify plants with pollen sterility and maintainer. 515 plants with CMS were isolated. In the subsequent years (2006-2010) was established 1588 maternal lines (S msms) and the fathers of maintainer (N msms). To obtain F1 hybrids with the maximum level of heterosis, the combined ability of lines and pollinators was evaluated by topcross and diallel crosses. The best lines for the complex of economically useful features with high combinational ability were included in various combinations of crosses with inbred lines in order to select high-performance hybrid combinations and to create F1 hybrids. 547 combinations of crosses of sterile lines with inbred paternal lines were carried out, on the basis of which 408 F1 hybrids were created. After testing and evaluation of them in the hybrid and breeding nurseries allocated 23. According to the results of the competitive test samples were identified, which under the names of Logran F1, Zarnitsa F1 and Solnyshko F1 transferred to the state variety test.
