The operating conditions of turbine-generator units, main and auxiliary hydromechanical equipment of hydroelectric and pumped-storage stations, and large pumping stations can be quite different in the character of the effect of the environment on these elements and in the character of the assigned operating regimes. Domestic and foreign experience in repairing and restoring units showed the high effectiveness of a new group of materials used for repair directly on the job. These materials are compositions of high-quality binding polymers and fillers of metallic powder or compounds of metals and ceramics. These materials received the name metallopolymers. In accordance with this, variants of using various metallopolymers for repair and restoration of elements of hydropower facilities will be examined below.Depending on the specific operating conditions and on the tasks facing the operating personnel of power facilities, the following metallopolymers are suggested for use.MM-Metal SS-Steel Ceramic. A metalloceramic polymer of a wide range of use with a pasty consistency. It is characterized by a high mechanical, corrosion, and erosion resistance (some physical and technical characteristics are given below). The compound can be used for repairing assemblies, parts, and articles of all metals and alloys, to which can be referred shafts, housings of pumps and compressors, engine blocks, heat exchangers, bearings, couplings, flanges, etc. It is used for repairing welds, ridges of keyways, and so forth./VIM-Metal OL-Steel Ceramic. A modified metalloceramic polymer having good adhesion to a greasy surface. It is used for repairing and restoring metal parts and elements contaminated with crude oil, oils, fuel, etc. The degree of contamination of the surface by oily products has no significance here. By means of the given composition it is possible to eliminate oil leaks under a pressure up to 2 atm, to repair transformers, oily radiators, etc.MM-Metal-UV. A modified metallopolymer for dry cold (temperature to minus 20~ and moist metal surfaces as well as for various kinds of operations under water. The hardening time of the composition does not exceed 20 min. It is used for conducting repair and restoration works under water, for eliminating water and steam leaks under a pressure up to 2 atm.MM-Metal SS-Steel (cast iron, aluminum, copper, brass, bronze). Metallopolymers for various alloys. High mechanical and chemical resistance. Thanks to a pasty consistency the composition does not flow off and keeps the necessary form. A liquid consistency is needed for coating which should provide a smooth surface. Given a low viscosity, it is applied by injector or by brush.
