A biomimética compreende a busca por princípios desenvolvidos pelos seres vivos e mecanismos naturais para aplicação dentro das mais variadas atividades humanas. Pode-se dizer que essa recente ciência se encontra em processo de desenvolvimento dentro de diversas áreas de pesquisa. O estudo das habitações dos cupins e do processo de ventilação utilizado por esses insetos tem se mostrado uma alternativa altamente viável, conforme demonstram algumas construções desenvolvidas na África e Austrália. Diante disso, o presente trabalho envolveu a criação de um modelo de edificação bioinspirada, numa tentativa de aplicar os princípios encontrados na literatura, relativos ao formato da habitação e ao processo de autoarrefecimento utilizados por cupins da espécie Cornitermes cumulans, bastante comuns no cerrado brasileiro. Tal modelo inspirou-se no perfil e mecanismo de circulação de ar dos termiteiros dessa espécie, envolvendo a elaboração de um projeto tridimensional e de sua posterior renderização.
