Com o objetivo de identificar alternativas ao uso do limoeiro 'Cravo', avaliou-se a influência de porta-enxertos na produtividade e nas características físico-químicas dos frutos de laranjeira 'Valência' em experimento instalado em janeiro de 1994, sem irrigação, no município de Nova Esperança-PR. Adotou-se delineamento experimental em blocos ao acaso, com quatro repetições, três plantas úteis por parcela e seis porta-enxertos como tratamentos: limoeiro 'Cravo' (C. limonia), tangerineira 'Cleópatra' (C. reshni) e 'Sunki' (C. sunki), citrangeiro 'Troyer' (P. trifoliata x C. sinensis), tangeleiro 'Orlando' (C. tangerina x C. paradisi) e laranjeira 'Caipira' (C. sinensis). Avaliou-se a qualidade dos frutos em duas safras (2002 e 2005), o desenvolvimento vegetativo e a eficiência de produção em 1999 e 2003, e a produção (1996 a 2005). Em relação ao 'Cravo', a 'Sunki' induziu maior produção e volume de copa, e eficiência de produção e qualidade do fruto equivalentes; o 'Troyer' induziu eficiência de produção equivalente, frutos com rendimento industrial superior e peso médio inferior; a 'Cleópatra' induziu produção equivalente, eficiência de produção inferior e maior volume de copa. O estudo mostrou que os porta-enxertos 'Sunki', 'Cleópatra' e 'Troyer' se destacaram como opções para a diversificação do 'Cravo'.

In the state of Paraná, 'Rangpur lime' is the main citrus rootstock, which has provided good performance for trees of different cultivars planted in the State. However, rootstock diversification is needed as well as to identify the best ones for citrus cultivars less explored commercially yet. The objective of this study was to evaluate the vegetative growth, yield and fruit quality of 'Okitsu' satsuma mandarin trees (Citrus unshiu Marc.) grafted on nine rootstocks in the Northwest region of the state of Paraná, Brazil.

-Low genetic diversity of citrus scion and rootstock cultivars makes the crop more vulnerable to diseases and pests. The objective of this study was to evaluate the performance of 'Jaffa' sweet orange grafted onto five rootstocks over six harvests in subtropical conditions in the north of Paraná state, Brazil. The experiment used a randomized block design, with six replications and two trees per plot, spaced at 7.0 m x 4.0 m. The rootstocks were: 'Rangpur' lime, 'Cleopatra' and 'Sunki' mandarins, 'Fepagro C-13' citrange, and 'Swingle' citrumelo. The variables evaluated were vigor, yield, and yield efficiency of the trees as well as the physical and chemical characteristics of the fruits. Data were subjected to analysis of variance, complemented by Scott-Knott test at 5% probability. The smallest tree canopy for 'Jaffa' sweet orange plants was induced by the 'Rangpur' lime rootstock. The trees had the same cumulative yield performance over six seasons for all rootstocks. The best yield efficiency for 'Jaffa' sweet orange trees was provided by 'Fepagro C-13' citrange rootstock. With regard to fruit quality, no differences were observed among the rootstocks and the 'Jaffa' sweet orange fruits met the standards required by the fresh fruit market and the fruit processing industry.

BEHAVIOUR OF VALENCIA ORANGE CLONES IN NORTHERN PARANÁ, BRAZIL ABSTRACT - (1985 to 1994, except 1991) were significatively higher when compared to that of 'Valência 718' orange. All clones presented acceptable fruit quality in relation to acidity, total soluble solids, TSS/TA ratio, juice content and fruit mass, except for the technological index which was lower in 'Valência Late 1138'. There was no significant difference among the clones for these characteristics during 1986 to 1997 study period.

Studies on rootstocks and scions are of major importance for citrus crop production. The goal of this study was to evaluate vegetative growth, yield performance, and fruit quality of ‘Navelina’ sweet orange trees grafted on five different rootstocks in Northern Parana state, Brazil. The experimental design was completely randomized blocks, with six replications, two plants per plot, and five treatments: ‘Rangpur’ lime; ‘Cleopatra’ mandarin, ‘Sunki’ mandarin; ‘Swingle’ citrumelo; and ‘Fepagro C-13’ citrange. Tree vegetative growth, yield performance, and fruit physical-chemical characteristics were analyzed. ‘Sunki’ mandarin provided the largest canopy volume for ‘Navelina’ sweet orange trees, whereas ‘Swingle’ citrumelo, ‘Fepagro C-13’ citrange, and ‘Rangpur’ lime provided a smaller volume for tree canopy. Compared to Rangpur lime, ‘Swingle’ citrumelo provided higher accumulated yield and production efficiency for ‘Navelina’ sweet orange trees. All rootstocks induced good physical and chemical quality to ‘Navelina’ sweet orange fruits.

This study aimed to determine carbohydrates and organic acids in fruit from ‘Salustiana’ orange tree [Citrus sinensis (L.) Osb.] grafted onto different rootstocks using the HPLC technique, as well as to evaluate their physicochemical properties. As rootstocks, we tested ‘Rangpur’ lime, ‘Cleopatra’ mandarin, ‘Sunki’ mandarin, ‘Swingle’ citrumelo, and ‘C-13’ citrange. Fully mature fruit was first characterized according to their physicochemical parameters as fruit mass, longitudinal and equatorial diameters, peel color, juice yield, soluble solids, titratable acidity, and ratio. Then, freshly squeezed juice was used to determine and to quantify organic acids and carbohydrates by the HPLC system. All analyses were performed in triplicate complete randomized with five treatments (rootstocks). Fruit from all evaluated rootstocks presented adequate physicochemical attributes, meeting the quality standards of the citrus industry. ‘C-13’ citrange induced in a production of large-sized fruit whereas ‘Rangpur’ lime promoted higher soluble solids content in its juice. Significant differences were not observed between the treatments with regards to organic acids and carbohydrates concentrations. Citric and ascorbic acids were identified and quantified in the juice samples. The sugars identified were sucrose, glucose, and fructose. Organic acids and carbohydrates concentrations are consistent with those reported in the literature for citrus juice, providing information about nutrition and quality of ‘Salustiana’ sweet orange produced onto different rootstocks.
