The present quantitative study aims to find out the underlying factors of attitudes towards information technology and the relationship with academic achievement among students, through a self-developed questionnaire. The attitudes of the respondents were assessed in terms of three dimensions; namely affection, behavior, and belief. The results revealed a statistically significant difference between Arts and Science students in terms of their attitude towards IT in favor of Science students, and also proved that there was no statistically significant correlation between students' academic achievement and their attitudes towards IT. While students at the medium level of academic achievement tended to score higher on the affection toward IT comparing with students at the satisfactory level of the academic achievement. The results of this study provide information for policy makers, and the researchers who are interested in understanding the factors that affect technology use by students in their learning.
Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has impacted global education, and to prevent the spread of disease, the world have adopted remote teaching. The aim of this study was to determine the university academics perspective towards various aspects of remote teaching during COVID-19 pandemic. According to the findings, the majority of academics had no remote teaching prior experiences and most of them appeared to be unsatisfied with the provided online training of online teaching, online teaching platforms, Internet access, students’ participation, online assessment, delivering the content of the subjects they taught, and teaching practical-based subjects. The current study provided essential insights for policymakers in higher education to look over the aspects that hinder the process of remote teaching in Iraq.
This study aims to find out the underlying factors of proper communication styles in educational settings from lecturers’ perspectives. It also tries to find out if there is any significant difference between male and female lecturers’ perspectives towards proper communication styles, and attempts to determine if there are differences between the private and public universities. Analyzing the data from self-developed questionnaire, yielded four factors; namely (listening, oral, writing, and body language) were derived from the varimax rotated matrix. The results revealed a statistically significant difference between the private and public universities lecturers’ perspectives towards proper communication. While, no statistically significant difference was found between male and female lecturers in their perspective towards listening, oral, and writing proper communication. The only difference found was in body language communication and it was in favor of female lecturers. The findings of this study will contribute in understanding factors of proper communication styles in educational setting.
Traditional medicine has been practiced for ages across the world using plants as a memory booster and in the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases such as dementia and amnesia. The tau, amyloid hypothesis and neuroinflammation hypothesis are major partakers in a combinational approach in the development of therapy against Alzheimer’s disease (AD), Acetyl and butyryl cholinesterases inhibitors have been investigated in clinical trials of AD for a very long time. This research involved an in-silico approach to study the interactions of phytochemicals in Aframomum melegueta leaves with some enzymes that have been reported in the literature which contribute to neuronal death and memory loss associated in AD. In these studies, Curcumin and Lilacin are shown to have a higher glide score than the co-crystallized ligands of either Acetylcholinesterase, Butyrylcholinesterase or GSK-3β, they also have higher glide scores than AChE inhibitor Rivastigmine. The ADMET/tox properties of our lead compounds (curcumin and lilacin) ranked them as good candidates for AD drug development, as well as possess the highest docking scores against acetylcholinesterase, butyrylcholinesterase and GSK-3 beta suggesting potent compounds in Alzheimer’s disease therapy. The pharmacokinetics studies also showed that curcumin and lilacin would pass through the blood brain barrier into the brain. This work is in line with recent multi-dimensional approach in drug development in that a single compound might possess many active groups which can activate/inhibit more than one protein without any toxic effect.
Knowing the ability and willingness of lecturers in using technology tasks is a key competency, necessary for learning and teaching. This study aimed to explore the list of e-learning competencies that university lecturers should have, and identify the availability of e-learning competencies of Koya University lecturers. The results revealed that e-learning competencies achieved good level among Koya University teaching staff, and also found no statistically significant differences between male and female lecturers in their e-learning competencies. The faculty of Engineering outweighs both faculties of Humanities and Education, and the faculty of Science and Health outweigh the faculty of Humanities in their e-learning competencies. Additionally, there were no significant differences between lecturers according to academic ranks in their e-learning competencies.
This study aimed at investigating the underlying factors of selfie addiction among university students. It further attempted to find out the role of gender difference in selfie addiction. A 19-item self-developed questionnaire used to measure selfie addiction. The questionnaire was validated using a sample of 269 randomly selected university students. Principle Component Analysis (PCA) was conducted to test the validity of the questionnaire. The results revealed three underlined factors which were: Intention, Self-Obsessed, and Self-Acceptance. The results also indicated that females are more addicted with respect to selfies on social media than their males.
This study aimed to explore the attitudes of kindergarten teachers towards teaching science and mathematics in English in Koya city for the academic year 2015-2016. It attempts to identify the attitudes of kindergarten teachers towards teaching science and mathematics in English according to some variables (age, monthly income, certification). The sample size consisted of 33 kindergarten teachers. The Instrument was developed by the researchers, later validated by specialists and experts. The reliability coefficients of the selfdeveloped questionnaire were obtained from a Cronbach Alfa which was at level 0.83. The results revealed that the mathematics and science teachers in the kindergartens of Koya city have an attitude between neutral and negative (to a certain extent) towards the teaching of these subjects in English. It was also found that the youth teachers have more positive attitudes toward math and science teaching in English, Additionally, the degree of academic certificate category (bachelor) has a more positive attitude than the academic certificate categories (Intermediate) and (diploma).
