Objective: To investigate psychological and behavioral responses to the threat of SARS-CoV-2 infections and their associations with public perceptions in China Design: Cross sectional population-based telephone survey via random digital dialing between 1 and 10 February, 2020 Setting: Wuhan (the epicentre and quarantined city), and Shanghai (a typical major city with close transportation link with Wuhan) Participants: Random sample of 510 residents in Wuhan and 501 residents in Shanghai aged above 18 Main outcome measures: Anxiety (measured by the 7-item generalized anxiety disorder [GAD-7] scale), recommended and avoidance behaviors (engaged in all six behaviors such as increasing surface cleaning and reducing going out).Results: The prevalence rates of moderate or severe anxiety (score ≥10 on GAD-7) were 32.7% (n=167) among Wuhan participants and 20.4% (n=102) among Shanghai participants. 78.6% (n=401) of Wuhan participants and 63.9% (n=320) of Shanghai participants had carried out all six precautionary behaviors. For both measures, Wuhan participants were more responsive to the outbreak (p<0.001). Controlling for personal characteristics, logistic regression results suggested that risks of moderate or severe anxiety were positively associated with perceived susceptibility (odds ratio 1.6, 95% confidence interval 1.3-1.8) and severity of the disease (1.6, 1.4-1.9) and confusion about information reliability (1.6, 1.5-1.9). Having confidence in taking measures to protect oneself against the disease was associated with a lower risk (0.6, 0.5-0.7).The strongest predictor of behavioral change was perceived severity (1.2, 1.1-1.4), followed by confusion about information reliability (1.1, 1.0-1.3). Conclusions:Psychological and behavioral responses to COVID-19 have been dramatic during the rising phase of the outbreak. Our results support efforts for timely dissemination of accurate and reliable information to address the high anxiety level.

Magmatic-hydrothermal ore deposits in collisional orogens are new targets for modern mineral exploration, yet it is unclear why they preferentially occur in some specific tectonic environments within these orogenic belts. We integrate geologic and geochemical data (especially zircon U-Pb dating and Lu-Hf isotope data) for Mesozoic-Cenozoic magmatic rocks and associated ore deposits in the Lhasa terrane, a highly endowed tectonic unit within the Himalayan-Tibetan orogen, and provide the first example in a continental collision terrane of the application of zircon Hf isotope data to image the lithospheric architecture and its relationship with ore deposits.Three crustal blocks are identified within the Lhasa terrane by the Hf isotope mapping method. They include a central long-lived Precambrian microcontinent with local reworking and two surrounding juvenile Phanerozoic crustal blocks with significant mantle contributions to constituent magmatic rocks. The three crustal blocks are bounded by two E-W-trending terrane-boundary faults, and each block is cut by two N-S-striking concealed faults. Isotopic signatures of zircons from the juvenile crustal blocks indicate that the Phanerozoic continental crust grew from several Mesozoic volcanic-plutonic arcs and by underplating of mantle-derived magmas generated during Mesozoic accretion and Cenozoic collision.Mesozoic subduction-related porphyry Cu-Au deposits and Cenozoic collision-related Cu-Mo deposits are exclusively located in regions with high eHf (>5) juvenile crust. Cu enrichment during differentiation of high fO 2 arc magmas is the key for the formation of Mesozoic subduction-related porphyry Cu-Au. By contrast, remelting of the lower crustal Cu sulfide-rich magmatic cumulates within the juvenile crust is interpreted to have played a key role in the formation of Cenozoic collision-related Cu-Mo deposits.Granite-related Pb-Zn deposits cluster in the oldest crustal regions or developed along the margin of the old crustal block bounded by lithospheric faults. The porphyry Mo deposits are localized along the reworked margins of the old crustal block. It is suggested that crustal reworking released Mo from the old crust to form porphyry Mo deposits, whereas leaching of Pb and Zn from the Paleozoic carbonate cover strata by felsic intrusion-driven fluids is critical to the formation of Pb-Zn ore deposits.Skarn Fe-Cu ore deposits are typically localized along a terrane boundary fault, i.e., lithospheric discontinuity, through which crust-derived felsic melt mixed with Cu-rich mantle-derived mafic magmas ascending upward. Associated granitoid rocks usually bear microgranular mafic enclaves and show a zircon Hf isotope array from negative to positive eHf values (-7.3 to +6.7), supporting mixing of juvenile mantle and evolved crustal sources.The Hf isotope maps show temporal-spatial relationships between crustal structure and the location of ore deposits, demonstrating that the structure, nature, and composition of the crust controlled the localization of ore deposits and ...

There have been obstacles for internal migrants in China in accessing local public health services for some time. This study aimed to estimate the utilization of local public health services and its determinants among internal migrants. Data were from the 2014 and 2015 nationally representative cross-sectional survey of internal migrants in China. Multivariate logistic regressions were used to estimate the relationship between socioeconomic, migration, and demographic characteristics and public health services utilization. Our results showed that internal migrants in more developed eastern regions used less public health services. Those with higher socioeconomic status were more likely to use public health services. The years of living in the city of residence were positively associated with the utilization of public health services. Compared to migration within the city, migration across provinces significantly reduced the probability of using health records (OR = 0.88, 95% CI: 0.86–0.90), health education (OR = 0.97, 95% CI: 0.94–1.00), and health education on non–communicable diseases (OR = 0.92, 95% CI: 0.89–0.95) or through the Internet (OR = 0.96, 95% CI: 0.94–0.99). This study concludes that public health services coverage for internal migrants has seen great improvement due to government subsidies. Internal migrants with lower socioeconomic status and across provinces need to be targeted. More attention should be given to the local government in the developed eastern regions in order to narrow the regional gaps.

Blastocystis has a widespread distribution in a variety of animals, which is a potential source of infection for humans. Previous studies show that Blastocystis sp. subtypes 1-4, 6, and 7 were composed of isolates from humans and animals, while Blastocystis sp. subtype 5 included only pig and cattle isolates. A more recent study on the basis of the SSU rDNA sequence has showed that a single Blastocystis isolate amplified directly from the faeces of a Thai human belongs to Blastocystis sp. subtype 5, but that study failed to cultivate this isolate. We report herein two human isolates from in vitro cultures belonging to Blastocystis sp. subtype 5 and one human isolate from in vitro culture containing two distinct genotypes of Blastocystis sp. subtypes 3 and 5 using PCR amplification with seven kinds of sequence-tagged site (STS) primers. Additionally, 16 Blastocystis isolates from pigs living in the same rural area with the three humans infected Blastocystis sp. subtype 5 were also genotyped by PCR with the STS primers, and all isolates from pigs and humans were compared by small-subunit ribosomal RNA (SSU rRNA) restriction-fragment-length polymorphism (RFLP) analyses using two restriction endonucleases (HinfI and RsaI). The results indicated that all of the isolates from pigs showed Blastocystis sp. subtype 5 and the RFLP patterns of all of the isolates from humans except for the mixed one were identical or quite similar to those of the 16 pig isolates with both HinfI and RsaI enzymes. These findings provide additional molecular-based evidence supporting the zoonotic potential of Blastocystis sp. subtype 5. This study also showed that Blastocystis sp. subtype 3 overgrew Blastocystis sp. subtype 5 in vitro.
