Mythimna separata (Walker) is an important pest which can cause serious damages to cereal crops. In the past two decades, several heavy outbreaks have taken place in northern China. In order to develop a fine-scale method of forecasting outbreaks, population data were collected in northern China using searchlight traps and ground light traps. A background weather pattern analysis and trajectory analysis were performed via the Weather Research and Forecast (WRF) and FLEXPART models. Our results showed that heavy migration of first-generation M. separata appeared in northern China in 2013. In Yanqing District, Beijing, the cumulative number of captured adults in searchlight traps was around 250 000 and the daily maximum for trapped moths was 86 000. During the peak period, the majority of M. separata moths arrived after 0:00 every night. The sex ratio (female:male) at each monitoring site was greater than 1 and greatly fluctuated with population dynamics. During the migration peak, prevailing downdraft winds benefited M. separata moths to land passively. Trajectory simulation showed that immigrants were from Anhui, Jiangsu and Hubei provinces and most of them could continue to fly into the northeastern regions of China. These results provide technical support for fine-scale forecasting of the outbreak of M. separata at meso-and micro-scale.

Background Late presentation to HIV/AIDS care presents serious health concerns, like increased transmission and high healthcare costs, increased mortality, early development of opportunistic infection, increased risk of antiretroviral therapy drug resistance. Despite the effort to contain the HIV/AIDS epidemic, LP has remained an impediment to individual immune reconstitution and public health. Objective This review aimed to estimate the prevalence and determine the factors associated with late presentation to HIV/AIDS care. Methods We searched PubMed, Web of Science, China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), Chinese Wanfang, and Weipu database for articles published from 2010 to 2020. We utilized I2 statistics and Q-test to estimate heterogeneity between studies. Random-effects meta-analysis models were used to calculate the aggregate odds ratio of late presentation to HIV/AIDS care. Results Of 9563 titles and abstracts retrieved, 189 were identified as potentially eligible and 39 fulfilled the inclusion criteria. The pooled prevalence of late presentation to HIV/AIDS care was 43.26%. The major risk factors were patients ≥ 50 years old (OR = 2.19, 95% CI: 1.85–2.58; I2 = 97.44%), married (OR = 1.50, 95% CI: 1.35–1.68; I2 = 96.58%), with heterosexual contact as risk factor for infection (OR = 1.91, 95% CI: 1.73–2.11; I2 = 90.74%) and diagnosed in medical institutions (OR = 2.35,95% CI: 2.11–2.62; I2 = 96.05%). In middle or low HIV prevalence areas, patients ≥ 50 years old (P = 0.01), married (P < 0.01) and diagnosed in medical institutions (P = 0.01) were more likely to be presented late than in high prevalence areas. From 2016–2020, the OR of patients who were married and diagnosed in medical facilities were significantly lower than before (P < 0.01). Conclusion Patients ≥ 50 years old, married, with heterosexual contact as risk factor for infection, and diagnosed in medical institutions were risk factors of LP. Gender had no significant relationship with LP. In middle or low prevalence areas, patients who were ≥ 50 years old, married, and diagnosed in medical institutions were more likely to be presented late than in other areas. Married patients and those diagnosed in medical institutions after 2015 have a lower risk of LP than before.

The laser-produced plasma and laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS) of two steels from a nuclear power plant, including the Z3CN20-09M steel used for the main reactor coolant pipes, and the 16MND5 steel used for nuclear reactor pressure vessels. These were investigated based on a fiber-optic LIBS system. Under the same input laser energy, the laserproduced plasma from the Z3CN20-09M steel had a weaker emission intensity compared to the 16MND5 steel, probably due to a greater content of Cr. Thus, plasma from the Z3CN20-09M steel had a larger kinetic energy and induced a faster expansion shockwave in air. Calibrations of the fiber-optic LIBS system by the means of internal standardization, support vector regression and random forest regression were set up. For the Cr element, as a major element in Z3CN20-09M (19.33wt.%), it was determined with the relative error controlled under 3.5%; as a trace element (0.11wt.%) in 16MND5 it was measured with the best rootmean-square error of prediction as 0.032wt.%, and the Mn content (1.19-1.51wt.%) in both steels was measured with the relative error around 10%.

The electromagnetic induced transparency (EIT) effect originates from the destructive interference in an atomic system, which contributes to the transparency window in its response spectrum. The implementation of EIT requires highly demanding laboratory conditions, which greatly limits its acceptance and application. In this paper, an improved harmonic spring oscillation (HSO) model with four oscillators is proposed as a classical analog for the tunable triple-band EIT effect. A more general HSO model including more oscillators is also given, and the analyses of the power absorption in the HSO model conclude a formula, which is more innovative and useful for the study of the multiple-band EIT effect. To further inspect the analogizing ability of the HSO model, a hybrid unit cell containing an electric dipole and toroidal dipoles in the metamaterials is proposed. The highly comparable transmission spectra based on the HSO model and metamaterials indicate the validity of the classical analog in illustrating the formation process of the multiple-band EIT effect in metamaterials. Hence, the HSO model, as a classical analog, is a valid and powerful theoretical tool that can mimic the multiple-band EIT effect in metamaterials.

Speckle effects on classification results can be suppressed to some extent by introducing the contextual information. An unsupervised classification algorithm is proposed for polarimetric synthetic aperture radar (POLSAR) images based on the mean shift (MS) segmentation and Markov random field (MRF). First, polarimetric features are exacted by target decomposition for MS segmentation. An initial classification is executed by using the target decomposition and the agglomerative hierarchical clustering algorithm. Thereafter, a classification step based on MRF is performed by using the mean coherence matrices obtained for each segment. Under the MRF framework, the smoothness term is defined according to the distance between neighboring areas. By using POLSAR images acquired by the German Aerospace Centre and National Aeronautics and Space Administration/Jet Propulsion Laboratory, the experimental results confirm that the proposed method has higher accuracy and better regional connectivity than other classification methods.Keywords: polarimetric synthetic aperture radar (POLSAR), classification, maximum a posteriori (MAP), mean shift (MS), Markov random field (MRF).
