STEAM is an interdisciplinary educational approach. Based on the idea that different disciplines can meet on a common ground, the STEAM approach aims to give students the habit of working together, to provide rich learning experiences and to focus on real-world problems. This study investigates STEAM-based digital learning applications used in music education, their contents and age group suitability. For this purpose, the method of the research is the narrative review study. In this context, we analyzed the Chrome Music Lab, Scratch Music, Groove Pizza, earSketch, UPISketch and iMuSciCA applications. Studies have proved that digital-based STEAM applications used in music education increase students’ creativity, improve their music learning, and increase their interest in the lesson because they offer fun learning. With the development of technology, it has become necessary to adapt the methods and techniques used in music education to the age. By integrating art education, which has an important place in STEAM education, with other disciplines, music lessons can be effective and more permanent. The study shows that the more effective use of related applications by music teachers will contribute to music education and it is important in this regard.
Science and Art Centers (BILSEM) are state institutions in Turkey operating under the Ministry of National Education, which aim to ensure that gifted students in Turkey acquire a scientific study discipline and develop their creativity in line with their talents and interests. In these centers, there are three different special talent fields: music, visual arts and general talent. In this study, it was aimed to determine the views of music teachers working at Science and Art Centers (BILSEM), which are activity-based centers where gifted students in Turkey receive education, about the student diagnosis process of music field. Music teachers working at BILSEM in the city center and districts of Bursa participated in the study. The study is in the case study research design, one of the qualitative research methods. The data were obtained using a semi-structured interview form. The acquired data were analyzed using the directed content analysis method. In this direction, 5 themes and 34 codes were determined. In the study, most of the teachers stated that group (Tablet) scanning application for the student diagnosis process was not necessary for prospective music students, that the content and criteria of the questions related to aural skills and memory should be changed and that the content related to the field of musical awareness was insufficient and needed to be improved. In addition, the music teachers evaluated the conditions of the exam environment and expressed different opinions on the subject. At the end of the study, various suggestions were made on the subject in the light of the obtained data and evaluations. Öz: Araştırmada, Millî Eğitim Bakanlığı (MEB) 2017 Ortaokul Müzik Dersi Öğretim Programı'nın içerik ve uygulama açısından öğretmen görüşleri doğrultusunda değerlendirilmesi amaçlanmıştır. Bu doğrultuda programın eğitim anlayışı, özel amaçları, alana özgü becerileri, öğrenme alanları ve süreleri, içerik ve değerlendirme ile uygulanabilme koşulları esas alınmıştır. Çalışmaya Bursa ili merkez ilçelerinden Nilüfer ve Osmangazi ilçeleri resmi ortaokullarında görev yapan 101 müzik öğretmeni gönüllülük esasına uygun olarak katılmıştır. Araştırmada tarama modeli kullanılmıştır. Araştırma için gerekli veriler, araştırmacılar tarafından geliştirilen "MEB 2017 Ortaokul Müzik Dersi Öğretim Programı'nın İçerik ve Uygulama Açısından Öğretmen Görüşleri Doğrultusunda Değerlendirilmesi" başlıklı 5'li likert tipi toplama aracıyla betimsel yöntem kullanılarak toplanmıştır. Elde edilen veriler ölçek derecelerine göre birer sayısal değer atanarak kodlanmış ve analiz edilerek bölümler farklı başlıklar altında değerlendirilmiştir. Çalışma sonucunda, ders içeriğinden çalgı öğretiminin kaldırılması, Türk müziği konularının öğrenci seviyelerine uygun olmaması ve sınıflardaki teknolojik materyallerin eksikliği sebebiyle teknoloji ile ilgili kazanımların yerine getirilememesi öğretmenlerin görüş bildirdiği olumsuz konular arasında yer almıştır. Bunun yanında program içeriğinin özel amaçlarına ulaşmada yeterli olduğu tespit edilmiştir.
The objective this study was to determine whether music teacher candidates’ attitudes towards the teaching profession in Turkey differ with respect to different variables. In this direction, a meta-analysis study was carried out on the pre-service music teachers’ attitudes towards their profession. The study consists of 12 studies chosen with predetermined criteria. Since the effect sizes of these studies display a heterogeneous structure, the random effects model was conducted. Effect sizes in the random effects model were calculated by using Hedges g coefficient with 12 studies for gender and nine studies for the form of high school graduated. Taking the results of the findings into consideration, it was concluded that the attitudes of female music teacher candidates towards the teaching profession are more positive than male candidates. There is no difference between Fine Arts and other high schools regarding the variable of the form of high school.
