Teaching practice (TP), also known as teaching practicum, is a compulsory component of every teacher education program. In recent years, multiple studies have attempted to understand student teachers' school-based teaching practice challenges. However, there has been insufficient investigation into the classroom experiences and challenges of the student teachers. This study aims to investigate the English language student teachers' classroom teaching experiences and problems they face during teaching practice at four public colleges of education and basic education in Duhok, Kurdistan region of Iraq (KRI). A 31-item questionnaire (paper and online) categorized into four domains -problems related to: student teachers (STs), classroom students, textbooks, and classroom environment-was administered to 132 participants at the end of their TP. The study revealed that student teachers encountered a wide range of challenges most of which were caused by the classroom students and classroom environment while less frequently by textbooks and STs themselves. These results allow us to understand the nature of the problems that handicap a productive and impactful TP course that aims to develop the skills of student teachers. These findings should provide a promising data framework for future plans of teaching practice.
This article explores the system of students' values in different courses of study. It is determined that values form a complex, dynamic structure, changing under the influence of various factors. Transformation of socio-economic, political, cultural, spiritual and moral conditions, age and personality changes determine the transformation of the value system. The main objective of the research was to study the dynamics of the students' value system in different courses. The study found that the prevailing values in the hierarchy of the system of students' life values in all three courses are those related to education, social activity and hobbies. This result is explained by the fact that students, as a social community, are a group aimed at acquiring professional knowledge, skills, development of professional competence and preparation for independent working life. Student community is a socially oriented, socially active group. It has been revealed that the value priorities of students in different courses differ in their orientation. The students of the 2nd year are aimed at self-development, achievements and creativity. The 3rd year students want to get spiritual satisfaction, as well as think about the high financial situation. Students in the 4th year are looking for material well-being, spiritual satisfaction and active social contacts in professional life and social activities.
