Objective: The aim of this study was to identify and evaluate the roles and responsibilities of young medical practitioners and perceived competency in their profession. Materials and Methods: It was a cross-sectional study, designed to measure the roles and responsibilities of young medical practitioners during house job (n=75) and Fellow of College of Physicians and Surgeons (FCPS)-II (n=75) training. For the evaluation, a comprehensive and well-designed questionnaire was used. A total of 150 medical Trainees including both genders of Hayatabad medical complex and Naseer teaching hospital, Peshawar participated. Medical trainees were from different departments of hospitals having age range of 24-30 years and completed 3 months of house job or doing FCPS II training were included in the study, the newly joined house-officers were excluded from the study. The data was analyzed using 21.0 SPSS version. Results: The results of this study showed that most of the medical Trainees i.e. 76% Training medical officers and 84% House officers were attained their roles respectively. 81.3% training medical officers and 96% house officers were dedicated to their duties (p-value <0.001). Most of the young medical trainees perceived themselves competent to take their professional roles and responsibilities (p-value<0.001). Conclusion: Medical trainees are committed to their profession and perform their duties and obligations. We need to provide facilities and more support to medical trainees to flourish in their field.
Objective: To determine the feedback of medical and dental undergraduate students towards interactive lectures in an integrated curriculum. Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted in the Kabir medical college and Sardar begum dental college, Peshawar. In this study, 400 undergraduate medical and dental students participated (200 MBBS & 200 BDS). The duration of this study was 2 months (October and November,2020). The sample size was selected through simple random sampling. 1st year and 3rd year students were excluded from the study. A questionnaire was designed, comprises of 20 questions and responses were recorded in 5-point Likert rating scale. Pre-testing of the questionnaire was done on 10% of the population. SPSS (version 22) were used for data analysis. Results: The results shown that medical and dental students understand integrated curriculum and they considered that it provides framework and modification in learning, as 66.5% of MBBS and 80.0% of BDS response was positive (p-value <0.05). Student’s perception about the integrated curriculum results showed that the Mean ± SD of MBBS students were 4.32 ± 0.69 where the BDS students were 4.48 ± 0.66 with -0.16 mean difference. 81.5% MBBS students and 86.0% BDS students also contemplate it as an effective mode of teaching which helps to achieve learning outcomes. Conclusion: Students have understanding about the interactive lectures and integrated curriculum, they provided positive feedback. It is helpful for students in their learning perspective which will also motivate them to excel in their profession.
Due to academic labor process, the working conditions of universities are changing means now the working conditions of universities are becoming standardized. This research paper is qualitative in which researchers tried to explore the concepts that making the academic labor process hectic day by day in the context of Pakistani universities. The aim of this study is to explore that what is the effect of this changing working environment on the lecturers. The convenience sampling method based on self-administrated questionnaires is used to evaluate the effect of different variables on the academic labor process and data collected from the lecturers through interview. Concept analysis technique is used for discussion and conclusion. After all research, researchers came to know that HEC policies have a negative effect on university autonomy because according to HEC policies they want more research work in a less time which depressed the lecturers and they create a bad research work. Working conditions also have a bad impact on research work because lecturers are unable to do their work attentively. So, if the workload increases lecturers are unable to do their work properly. Incentives and bonuses play a motivational role to motivate lecturers to work well. Based on the results of this study, researchers suggest to universities that they give the autonomy to their lecturers, so they work with full devotion. And separate the teaching and research work and give the lecturers a good working environment.
Objective: The purpose of this study was to determine the house officer’s skills for management of medical emergencies in dental teaching hospitals Peshawar. Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional study, conducted in three dental teaching hospitals of Peshawar i.e. Khyber College of Dentistry (KCD), Peshawar Dental College (PDC) and Sardar Begum Dental College (SBDC). Investigations were planned to evaluate the house-officers expertise for the potential health-related emergencies in dental teaching hospitals for dental procedure, ought to be taken care of productively and viably to continue life until restorative assistance shows up. A total 150 house officers (50 house-officers from each dental hospital) were selected for this study through simple random sampling. The house-officers having less than 8 months experience of training were excluded. A structured self-administered questionnaire was used to collect the information. Informed consent was taken from the authorities and participants. SPSS version 22 was used for analysis of data. Results: The results revealed that the degree of preparing and level of information on health-related crisis was substandard while dealing with the emergencies the confidence was high (63.1%), thirty per cent attended workshops on medical training whereas 94.9% felt that they need further training to cope with the emergencies. Conclusion: Most of the house officers were knowledgeable to manage health related crisis. Among them 2/3rd house officers need fundamental preparation for dental emergencies. Subsequently, to improve health of patient, Basic Life Skills courses ought to be made compulsory.
OBJECTIVES: The study aim was to determine the feedback regarding the environment, satisfaction and further needs for modification in improving the effectiveness of the lecture. METHODOLOGY: It was a cross-sectional study to measure the student's feedback about lecture rooms to improve the effectiveness of the lectures. A questionnaire was designed to assess the student's response about the environment of the lecture room, the learning experience of the students, needs of other lecture rooms’ modification, seating design and temperature of the lecture room. The total numbers of the participants were 115 students including both genders from Sardar Begum Dental College, Peshawar. Second- and fourth-year professional students were excluded from the study. Responses were recorded from 115 participants of the first- and third-year students of BDS. The obtained data were analyzed using SPSS 20. RESULTS:This study results showed that 100% of the students were satisfied with the environment of the classroom, to improve the learning experience 98% of the students were detected, 91% of students required modification of lecture rooms. 47% of the students preferred chairs with tables, 40% bench with tables and 11% are satisfied with the current setup. Twenty-four per cent of students suggested heaters in the lecture room during winter, 1.7% required air condition and 35% of students were satisfied with the room temperature. 38% of the students were satisfied with the effectiveness of the lectures.CONCLUSION:Students’ feedbacks were satisfactory and it enhanced their learning experience.
