This paper investigates the Efficient Market Hypothesis (EMH) for ISE30, ISE50, ISE100 and ISE Composite indices with unit root tests which were adapted for the non-linear ESTAR process. Firstly, Harvey et al. (2008) linearity test is employed. The test results indicate that all indices have non-linear behavior. Afterwards, non-linear unit root tests developed by Kapetanios et al. (2003) and Kruse (2011) were conducted. While the Kapetanios et al. (2003) test accepts the existence of EMH for all indices, the Kruse (2011) test which is relatively more recent rejects the hypothesis.
This study aims to determine behaviors of college students regarding use of credit card and their level of credit card literacy. For this end, a survey is conducted with 720 respondents studying in Gaziantep University. According to findings of the study, credit card literacy level of the students is determined as 43%. One of the findings is that credit card literacy level of students differs according to gender and the faculty that they are studying. Also it is observed that students who get a credit card after a conscious reading of credit card agreement and students who regularly pay the debt have a higher level of credit card literacy compared to other students.
In this paper, we examine the effect of explosive behaviors in the Bitcoin market on the top 10 largest stock markets of developed and emerging countries. The daily dataset, including the Dow Jones Industrial Index (DJIA), Nasdaq (NSQ), Shanghai Composite Index (SSE), Nikkei 225 (N225), Hang Seng Index (HSI), Shenzhen Composite Index (SZSE), Euronext Amsterdam Index (AEX), London Stock Exchange (LSE), Toronto Stock Exchange (TSX), and Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), spans July 21, 2010, to December 9, 2022. We first investigate the existence of explosive price behaviors using the bubble detection test of Phillips and Shi and the results provide evidence of multiple bubble episodes, coinciding with the monetary policy actions of the FED and ECB. Then, we address the question of whether the explosive behaviors detected affect the variance of equity returns by employing a GARCH model. The impact is negative, albeit its magnitude and significance vary among stock indices.
