In the paper, a distributed JPEG encoder on a NoC-based MPSoC platform is presented. Unlike the traditional JPEG encoder designed with a single core, first this new JPEG encoder is partitioned into some parallel threads, which are then mapped to the processor cores of the scalable NoC-based MPSoC platform respectively. Therefore, it can be executed concurrently and distributedly, and the performance is better than that of the single-core design, especially as processing larger pictures. For designing the distributed JPEG encoder, the model development, prototyping, and verification of the NoC-based MPSoC platform are accomplished. The results show that the encoding performance with 4 processor cores indeed increases up to 373 %.
Based on the arbiter template developed in [1], we presented an efficient, modular, and scalable decentralized parallel design of a new multi-facet arbiter. Moreover, with this modular and reusable hardware design, we have implemented a parametric arbiter generator that automatically generates various multi-facet arbiters. With the decentralized parallel design and the generator, not only a fastest and smallest roundrobin arbiter but also other type arbiters were designed and generated on the fly. The experiment results were given to show the designs' excellent performances.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
