conditions. This study compared the external shape type with that of 'White Miri' and conducted ploidy and RAPD (Random amplified polymorphic DNA) marker analyses. These tests showed that 'Nuri Ball' cultivar has its own characteristics compared with the control 'White Miri'. 'Nuri Ball' was a shrub type variety with semi-double flowers of 4.0 cm in width with white petals. It could produce 1025.2 flowers per plant in autumn. Compared with the control 'White Miri', 'Nuri Ball' was similar in terms of shape and color of flowers, but was different in flower size and number. The natural flowering time of 'Nuri Ball' was late September. It had very vigorous growth and an early budding plant. 'Nuri Ball' was demonstrated to be a new cultivar based on ploidy test and RAPD analysis. 'Nuri Ball' is intended for use as a bed chrysanthemum and expected to contribute to farm incomes in landscaping.
A new cultivar Dendranthema grandiflourm 'Dream Water' was developed at Gyeonggi-do Agricultural Research & Extension Services, Korea in 2009. The cultivar 'Dream Water' was initially derived from the cross in 2005 between 'Patra', a spray chrysanthemum cultivar with yellow single type, and 'Ruces', a spray chrysanthemum cultivar with white single type. The cultivar has single type with ivory petals. Trial evaluation was conducted from 2006 to 2009 for selection of this variety, including a shading culture in spring and a retarding culture in summer. The flowering time of 'Dream Water' was October 24th, and year-round flowering is possible by shading or lighting treatment. The diameter of the flower is 56.0 mm. Number of flowers per stem and petals per flower are 11.1 and 26.8, respectively. Its leaf color was green (Green Group 147A) and plant height was 89.7 cm. Days to flowering under the short day treatment is about 54 in spring, and diameter of flower center was 1.4 cm in the summer. The vase life was 16.7 days in autumn and consumer's preference of new spray chrysanthemum is high level than control.
A standard rose cultivar, 'Love Letter' was selected for cut flower from the progenies of a cross between 'Red Giant' and 'Ensemble' by the rose breeding team of the Gyeonggi-do Agricultural Research & Extension Services (GARES) in 2011. A standard rose cultivar 'Red Giant' with red colored (RHS Red Group 45C) petals and 1.8 prickles per stems of 10 cm was used as a mother plant. A standard rose cultivar 'Ensemble' with white and red purple colored (RHS White Group 155C + RHS Red Group N57B) petals and 2.4 prickles per stems of 10 cm was used as a pollen parent. 'Love Letter' was crossed in 2007 and seedlings were produced. After tests of specific characters from 2008 to 2011, this cultivar was finally selected and named. As a standard type with large sized flower, it has red colored (RHS Red Group 46A) petals with 9.3 cm flower diameter and 32.4 petals per flower. Vase life of this cultivar could be as long as 12 days. It takes 43 days from pruning to blooming and cut flower productivity was 152 stems/m 2 in a year. The stems of cut flower have no thorn and the length is about with 70.5 cm. When this cultivar grew below 15°C and 1,000 lux, the petals color became dark red in winter season. 'Love Letter' was registered as a new cultivar on
