1We successfully isolated one microorganism (UMI-21) from Ulva, a green algae that 2 contains starch. The strain UMI-21 can produce polyhydroxyalkanoate (PHA) from starch, 3 maltotriose, or maltose as a sole carbon source. Taxonomic studies and 16S rDNA sequence analysis 4 revealed that strain UMI-21 was phylogenetically related to species of the genus Massilia. The PHA 5 content under the cultivation condition using a 10-L jar fermenter was 45.5% (w/w). This value was 6
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
