This research is focused on analyzing the impact on the use of ‘WhatsApp’ as a media to develop listening skill for a group of 26 ten-grade senior high school students. Since the phenomenal booming about the tremendous use of smartphone in real-life among teenagers which might bring negative effects, it is urgent to empower the phenomenal behavior of teenagers toward their mobile phone in the context of language learning. The 26 ten grade senior high students were put in ‘WhatsApp’ group messenger. The learning activities were performed in ‘virtual’ ‘WhatsApp’ group class called ‘Fun In English’. The one-group pretest-posttest design was implemented in this study. The instruments used in this study were 1) learning activities 2)English comprehension tests (pretest and posttest) and 3) a questionnaire and interview of the students ‘response. Regarding the data analysis, mean, percentage and t-test scores for the dependent sample were employed. The result indicated that 1) the students’ English listening comprehension ability increased significantly after learning with MP3 which uploaded in ‘WhatsApp’ group called ‘Fun In English’. 2) the questionnaires told that the students reflected a good response. The mean score of pre-test was 6,9 then mean score of posttest was 8,7 which means that there is a significant increasing score. The students’ score were increased after the treatment which is the students was given learning activities through ‘WhatsApp’ group exercises. Thus, the learning model is confirmed to be effective and powerful. The students gave their response through questionnaires that reflected their enthusiasm, intimate interaction, and enjoyable learning activities.
Melakukan penelitian tidak semudah menulis artikel. Menulis sebuah artikel dari hasil penelitian mungkin menjadi sesuatu yang sangat sulit bagi mereka yang belum pernah mengenalnya. Dalam menyusun susunan bagaimana sebuah artikel harus dibuat atau disusun guru perlu disesuaikan dengan cara bagaimana mereka seharusnya bekerja melakukan sebuah artikel. Melalui workshop online ini, tim pengabdi mencoba membantu para guru agar terbiasa menyusun sebuah penelitian menjadi sebuah artikel yang siap dipublikasikan. Kegiatan ini dilakukan secara online di mana terlebih dahulu guru diberikan penjelasan bagaimana seharusnya sebuah artikel dibuat. Setelah itu, mereka dibagi menjadi beberapa kelompok dengan tutornya untuk membantu mereka mengerjakan lokakarya. Tujuan dari kegiatan ini adalah untuk memberikan dan menambah wawasan pengetahuan tentang bagaimana menulis karya ilmiah utamanya menyusun artikel dari hasil penelitian. Metode yang dipakai dalam kegiatan ini adalah metode ceramah, diskusi, tanya jawab dan penyampaian materi. Hasilnya, salah seorang guru berhasil menyusun penelitiannya menjadi sebuah artikel yang siap dipublikasikan. Workshop ini sangat membantu para guru untuk membuka pikiran mereka tentang bagaimana artikel yang bagus dapat dibuat dari penelitian mereka sendiri. Sebagai kesimpulan dari kegiatan ini adalah bahwa pelatihan ini adalah hal yang memang dinantikan oleh semuanya walaupun kenyataannya menulis karya ilmiah adalah hal yang cukup berat mengingat guru dengan faktor usia dan pekerjaan sekolah lainnya. Maka perlu adanya kegiatan sejenis yang berkelanjutan dan terarah
This research is conducted to analyse conceptual metaphor of cancer found in the stories of cancer patients. This research is aimed at explaining: (1) the source domain used to convey cancer, (2) the meaning of conceptual metaphor used by cancer patients to describe their experiences. The researcher uses a descriptive qualitative method. Therefore, this research uses content analysis as the research method. The sources of data are 5 selected stories taken from a Cancer Center Website. The results of this study show that there are three source domains of conceptual metaphors used to convey cancer. The source domains used to convey cancer are journey, blessing, and lesson. The meaning of the conceptual metaphor varies depending on the context and how it is used by the patients. As shown in the results, journey is the most frequently used source domain, with 19 metaphorical expressions, while blessing is the least frequently used source domain, with 7 metaphorical expressions. It is suggested that this research be used as a support or comparison in future research, particularly when discussing conceptual metaphors in communication. Subsequently, this research has benefited cognitive linguistics by identifying conceptual metaphors that exist in one-way communication, in this case, the cancer patients' experiences on a website.
This research aims at analyzing the implementation of a test of evaluating and test of creating as contained in the mid-term test and final test exercises during the era of Covid-19 pandemic by two English Foreign Language Lecturers. This research uses a descriptive qualitative method with a document analysis approach intended in analyzing the implementation of a test of evaluating and a test of creating as contained in the mid-term test and final test exercises. The source data of this study is the mid-term tests and final tests that were made during the era of the Covid-19 pandemic by two English Foreign Language Lecturers who teach in the English Literature department in a private University in Java. Data collecting technique is done using documentation and observation methods. The data analysis has been done by data coding. Then, the data is identified based on the categorization of level competency based on the Bloom taxonomy, particularly the evaluating and creating competency level. After that, the data will be analyzed and interpreted. The finding showed that 'test of evaluating' appeared only one item that requires students to review especially criticizing based on the qualitative standard and criteria. Meanwhile, the second finding was 'test of creating' in mid-term and final test patterned on the ability to produce a new thing by implying the processes inside 'creating' that are 'generating, planning, and producing’. By implicating Bloom's taxonomy, the lecturers are not only assisted but also expanded and sharpened the assessment, so the purpose of learning is not just teaching transfer but also covering all the cognitive processes needed in learning transfer.
Pembelajaran harus tetap berlangsung, walaupun terjadi bencana pandemic yang menjadikan pemerintah menerapakan pembatasan tatap muka pada dunia pendidikan. Solusi yang dianggap tepat adalah pembelajaran daring yang dilakukan seara virtual memalui aplikasi virtual yang tersedia. Pada rumusan masalah penelitian ini adalah pengembangan pembelajaran daring menggunakan Virtual Class untuk meningkatkan keaktifan mahasiswa pada perkuliahan daring di Sekolah Tinggi Ilmu Ekonomi Surabaya serta kendala-kendala yang mungkin ditemui dalam pelaksanaan kegiatan perkuliahan daring tersebut. Berdasarkan rumusan masalah tersebut, maka tujuan penelitian, ialah: 1)Mengembangkan aplikasi media pembelajaran daring; 2)Meningkatkan minat belajar, berdiskusi tanya jawab, dan mengerjakan tugas pada media pembelajaran daring; 3)Melakukan identifikasi terhadap penggunaan media pembelajaran daring. Metode penelitian yang dipergunakan adalah penelitian kuantitatif dengan menggunakan metode survey. Responden merupakan dosen dan mahasiswa aktif semester gasal tahun akademik 2021/2022 dari Sekolah Tinggi Ilmu Ekonomi Surabaya. Analisa kuesioner pada penggunaan media pembelajaran daring menggunakan aplikasi Virtual Class untuk dosen sebesar 92,3% sedangkan untuk mahasiswa sebesar 94,3% maka berada dalam kualifikasi sangat baik. Hasil dari peningkatan penggunaan aplikasi Virtual Class tersebut dalam perkuliahan daring dapat digunakan sebagai acuan dalam pembuatan pedoman perkuliahan daring pada STIE Surabaya di masa pandemi Covid-19. Media pembelajaran daring yang dimiliki STIE Surabaya beralamatkan https://sties.vclass.id merupakan media pembelajaran daring yang memberikan pengalaman belajar menyenangkan, mudah, paperless dan fleksibel. Kesimpulan dari penelitian ini adalah: 1)Pelaksanaan perkuliahan pada STIE Surabaya menggunakan media pembelajaran daring aplikasi Virtual Class berjalan baik dengan kualitas produk kategori sangat baik; 2)Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa media pembelajaran daring aplikasi Virtual Class yang dipergunakan STIE Surabaya mampu meningkatkan keaktifan perkuliahan.
