Nitrogen dioksida merupakan gas polutan yang cukup penting. Sumber utama nitrogen dioksida adalah emisi kendaraan bermotor dan proses pembakaran di industri. NO 2 merupakan polutan penyebab hujan asam dan dapat menyebabkan kerusakan paru-paru kronis pada konsentrasi yang tinggi. Untuk mengantisipasi hal tersebut, diperlukan adanya pemantauan kualitas udara terhadap konsentrasi NO 2 di udara ambien. Salah satu metode pemantauan yang dapat dilakukan adalah metode pasif menggunakan sampler pasif. Sampler pasif yang digunakan pada penelitian ini diproduksi oleh Gradko Company, Inggris. Untuk pengukuran di dalam negeri, koefisien difusi yang digunakan perlu dihitung ulang, dikoreksi dan disesuaikan dengan kondisi lingkungan di Indonesia terutama dari segi temperatur dan kelembaban yang cukup berbeda dengan luar negeri. Penelitian dilakukan dalam sebuah lingkungan terkontrol berbentuk reaktor tertutup, yang dilengkapi dengan pengatur temperatur, kelembaban, kecepatan angin, dan konsentrasi gas polutan. Sebelum digunakan, sampler perlu dibersihkan terlebih dahulu dari senyawa-senyawa pengganggu seperti SO 2 , Nitrit, dan PAN (Peroxyacetil Nitrate). Hasil dari penelitian menunjukkan bahwa rerata temperatur sebesar 26,14 0 C menghasilkan perubahan pada laju pengambilan tube sampler sebesar 3,167% dan konsentrasi NO 2 sebesar 131,2 µg/m³. Hasil konsentrasi ini memiliki akurasi sebesar 14,62 % jika dibandingkan dengan metode aktif manual. Data dengan akurasi kurang dari 25% terhadap metode acuan dapat dikatakan akurat, sehingga koefisien difusi yang digunakan dalam perhitungan tidak perlu dikoreksi. Secara keseluruhan, pengaruh temperatur terhadap performansi tube sampler di Indonesia tidak begitu signifikan karena Indonesia berada di zona tropis dan tidak mengalami temperatur ekstrim tinggi dan ekstrim rendah.
