We demonstrate a method for quickly and automatically detecting all three components of a remanent magnetic field around a shielded spin-exchange relaxation-free (SERF) atomic magnetometer (AM) using the trisection algorithm (TSA) for zero-field resonance (ZFR). To satisfy the measurement of AMs, a resonance light of the 87Rb D1 line with a spectral width of less than 1MHz is converted to circular polarization by a linear polarizer and a quarter-wave plate. After the light beam has passed through the alkali metal vapor cell, the residual magnetic field can be measured by searching for triaxial ZFR optical peaks. The TSA stably reduces the measurement time to 2.41 s on average and improves the measurement accuracy, significantly outpacing existing methods. The weighted averages of all measurements with corresponding uncertainties are (−15.437 ± 0.022)nT, (6.062 ± 0.021)nT, and (−14.158 ± 0.052)nT on the x-, y-, and z-axes, respectively. These improvements could facilitate more extremely weak magnetic studies in real time, such as magnetoencephalography (MEG) and magnetocardiography (MCG) measurements.

The magnetic levitation reaction flywheel (MLRW) is a novel actuator of spacecraft attitude control because of its significant advantages, including lack of friction and active suppression of vibration. However, in a vacuum environment, the poor heat dissipation conditions make it more sensitive to various losses and rises in temperature. Therefore, increasing temperature is the key issue for components used in space. In this study, the losses of the three kinds of heat-generating areas in the MLRW, namely, the passive magnetic bearing (PMB), the active magnetic bearing (AMB) and brushless DC motor (BLDCM), were analyzed and calculated. Based on the electromagnetic field theory, the loss model of PMB was proposed. Based on the finite element method (FEM) and Bertotti model, the loss power of the AMB and the BLDCM was obtained. The calculated loss values were brought into the FEM to calculate the temperature field distribution of the MLRW system. Then, the key factors affecting the heat dissipation of the flywheel were obtained by combining thermal network analysis with the temperature field distribution. Finally, a prototype was fabricated. The maximum estimated and experimental temperatures were 34.8 °C and 36.8 °C, respectively, both at the BLDCM stator. The maximum error was 5.4%, which validates the calculated model.

Atmospheric deposition of nitrogen (N) and phosphorus (P) far exceeding the pre-industrial levels have the potential to change carbon (C) dynamics in northern peatlands. However, the responses of soil C concentration and organo-chemical composition to different rates and durations of nutrient enrichment are still unclear. Here, we compared the short- (3 years) and long-term (10 years) effects of N and P fertilizations on the physicochemical properties of peat and porewater in a bog-fen complex in northern China. Our results showed that the short-term fertilization increased Sphagnum moss cover, while the expansion of vascular plants was observed owing to the long-term fertilization. The preserved soil C did not vary considerably after the short- and long-term fertilizations. The harsh soil conditions may impede the decomposition of organic matters by soil microorganisms during the short-term fertilization. For the long-term fertilization, the input of high-phenolic litters owing to vascular plant expansion likely exerted an important control on soil C dynamics. These processes constrained the variation in soil C concentrations when the addition rate and cumulative amount of external N and P increased, which will advance our understanding and prediction of the resilience of soil C storage to imbalanced nutrient enrichment of N and P in northern peatlands.
