Copy module has been widely equipped in the recent abstractive summarization models, which facilitates the decoder to extract words from the source into the summary. Generally, the encoder-decoder attention is served as the copy distribution, while how to guarantee that important words in the source are copied remains a challenge. In this work, we propose a Transformer-based model to enhance the copy mechanism. Specifically, we identify the importance of each source word based on the degree centrality with a directed graph built by the self-attention layer in the Transformer. We use the centrality of each source word to guide the copy process explicitly. Experimental results show that the self-attention graph provides useful guidance for the copy distribution. Our proposed models significantly outperform the baseline methods on the CNN/Daily Mail dataset and the Gigaword dataset.
Sentence classification is one of the foundational tasks in spoken language understanding (SLU) and natural language processing (NLP). In this paper we propose a novel convolutional neural network (CNN) with attention mechanism to improve the performance of sentence classification. In traditional C-NN, it is not easy to encode long term contextual information and correlation between non-consecutive words effectively. In contrast, our attention-based CNN is able to capture these kinds of information for each word without any external features. We conducted experiments on various public and inhouse datasets. The experimental results demonstrate that our proposed model significantly outperforms the traditional CNN model and achieves competitive performance with the ones that exploit rich syntactic features.
Automated Essay Scoring (AES) is a critical text regression task that automatically assigns scores to essays based on their writing quality. Recently, the performance of sentence prediction tasks has been largely improved by using Pre-trained Language Models via fusing representations from different layers, constructing an auxiliary sentence, using multitask learning, etc. However, to solve the AES task, previous works utilize shallow neural networks to learn essay representations and constrain calculated scores with regression loss or ranking loss, respectively. Since shallow neural networks trained on limited samples show poor performance to capture deep semantic of texts. And without an accurate scoring function, ranking loss and regression loss measures two different aspects of the calculated scores. To improve AES's performance, we find a new way to fine-tune pre-trained language models with multiple losses of the same task. In this paper, we propose to utilize a pretrained language model to learn text representations first. With scores calculated from the representations, mean square error loss and the batch-wise ListNet loss with dynamic weights constrain the scores simultaneously. We utilize Quadratic Weighted Kappa to evaluate our model on the Automated Student Assessment Prize dataset. Our model outperforms not only state-of-the-art neural models near 3 percent but also the latest statistic model. Especially on the two narrative prompts, our model performs much better than all other state-of-theart models.
We present an abstractive summarization system that produces summary for Chinese e-commerce products. This task is more challenging than general text summarization. First, the appearance of a product typically plays a significant role in customers' decisions to buy the product or not, which requires that the summarization model effectively use the visual information of the product. Furthermore, different products have remarkable features in various aspects, such as “energy efficiency” and “large capacity” for refrigerators. Meanwhile, different customers may care about different aspects. Thus, the summarizer needs to capture the most attractive aspects of a product that resonate with potential purchasers. We propose an aspect-aware multimodal summarization model that can effectively incorporate the visual information and also determine the most salient aspects of a product. We construct a large-scale Chinese e-commerce product summarization dataset that contains approximately 1.4 million manually created product summaries that are paired with detailed product information, including an image, a title, and other textual descriptions for each product. The experimental results on this dataset demonstrate that our models significantly outperform the comparative methods in terms of both the ROUGE score and manual evaluations.
Named Entity Recognition is one of the key techniques in the fields of natural language processing, information retrieval, question answering and so on. Unfortunately, Chinese Named Entity Recognition (NER) is more difficult for the lack of capitalization information and the uncertainty in word segmentation. In this paper, we present a hybrid algorithm which can combine a class-based statistical model with various types of human knowledge very well. In order to avoid data sparseness problem, we employ a back-off model and /TONG YI CI CI LIN , a Chinese thesaurus, to smooth the parameters in the model. The F-measure of person names, location names, and organization names on the newswire test data for the 1999 IEER evaluation in Mandarin is 86.84%, 84.40% and 76.22% respectively.
