Abstract. Semarang is one of the coastal areas in Indonesia that frequently occur tidal flood. Tidal flood is a phenomenon where the sea water entering the land area. It can be influenced by astronomical factor that is gravity of moon and sun besides meteorological factor which also play a role in rising the sea level. Sea level rise can cause flood disaster in coastal areas if the height of coastal land is below sea level. At the time of minimum sea wave height, sea level rise is also low, so rising sea level is only played by high tidal fluctuations. Wind data used in this study. The data classified into land breeze, sea breeze and wind transition. From wind data, three classifications of wind speed are determined that is when the wind with minimum, average and maximum speeds. The method of calculating some variables of sea level rise (wave set up) as well as sea tidal observation and measurement. From this research it can be seen that sea level rise in Semarang besides caused by tidal factor is also caused by meteorological factors such as wind speed.
Abstract—Indonesia located in the equatorial region which has potential to have a major impact on atmospheric physical conditions during extreme weather events such as the Mesoscale Convective Complex (MCC). MCC is a phenomenon that was first discovered by (Maddox, 1980) where this phenomenon is characterized by the presence of a quasi-circular (almost circular) cloud shield with an eccentricity of 0.7 with a cloud cover area of 100,000 km², the cloud core area covers 50,000 km² and cloud top temperature IR1 -52 ℃. These cloud conditions last for a minimum of 6 hours and cause severe weather and extreme rain. This study aims to identify the MCC phenomenon in the Karimata Strait on 19-20 September 2020 which caused heavy rains in parts of the West coast of Kalimantan and Bangka Island using Himawari-8 Satellite imagery data and the MATLAB application. The results showed that on September 19, MCC was identified at 09.00-19.00 UTC, then on September 20, MCC was identified at 16.00-23.00 UTC. At the time of the MCC event, Bangka and Pontianak regions experienced extreme rains recorded on AWS Digi Stamet Pontianak with rainfall reaching 43.4 mm/hour and ARG Lubuk Besar Bangka Tengah with rainfall reaching 16.8 mm/hour. Keywords: mesoscale convective complex (MCC), himawari-8, MATLAB Abstrak—Indonesia merupakan negara yang terletak diwilayah ekuator dimana berpotensi memiliki dampak besar terhadap kondisi fisik atmosfer saat terjadi cuaca ekstrem seperti Mesoscale Convective Complex (MCC). Indonesia is influenced by two types of monsoons, namely, the Asian and Australian monsoons. The differences in conditions occurring during these monsoon phenomena can affect sea surface temperatures (SSTs). This study aims to determine the effect of these monsoons on the SSTs in the southeast Indian Ocean and the Indonesian throughflow (ITF) region. SST and geostrophic current data obtained from Copernicus Marine Service and surface wind speed and direction data from the European Center for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) from March 2019 to February 2020 were statistically and descriptively analyzed. Observational conductivity–temperature–depth (CTD) data obtained in December 2019 were used to identify statistical errors in the Copernicus Marine Service SST data. The results of the SST data verification show a 0.85°C RMSE and 0.6°C MAE; they are significantly correlated at 0.82 with a 95% confidence level. The results of this study generally show that geostrophic currents move to the east, and SST tends to be warmer during the Asian monsoon period than during the Australian monsoon period, which has a cooler SST (with geostrophic currents moving to the northwest). Specifically, the SST conditions in the ITF region and southeast Indian Ocean cool from the MAM period. This cooling period intensifies during the JJA period and subsides in the SON period. The Australian monsoon, which is dominant during the DJF period, causes warmer-than-average SST conditions in the northern part of Indonesia, particularly the northern part of the ITF.
