The aim of this study is to determine the relationship between Transformational (TFL)/ Transactional (TSL) leadership and employees' Innovative Work Behavior (IWB), through a mediation and moderation model. The proposed model postulates that Organizational Climate for Innovation (OCI) and Organizational Absorptive Capacity (OAC) exert a mediating role whereas Employees´ Work Engagement (EWE) has a moderating effect in such relationship. A total of 267 Colombian workers from different kind of companies completed a reliable battery of questionnaires. The sample was collected through the MBA programs from two recognized universities located in Bogotá, Colombia. Structural equation modeling and hierarchical regression analyses were used to test the proposed model. According to the results, there is a direct and positive relationship between TFL and IWB as was expected. However, contrary to what had been hypothesized, TSL demonstrated to exert the same positive linkage. OCI and OAC showed its mediator effect in the relationship between TFL/TSL and IWB, nevertheless, this effect was less strong than when the relationship between theses variables was direct. On the contrary, EWE does not exert a moderator effect in this relationship as it was posited, but shows a significant and direct relationship with IWB. This research allows assert that leadership influences IWB, either directly or mediated by organizational variables. These results contribute to extent the literature in a scarcely studied field, by testing an empirical model.
The aim of this study is to examine how transformational and transactional leaders, boost the employees' innovative work behaviour, directly or through work engagement, organizational climate for innovation and absorptive capacity in Latin American firms. A non-random sample of 1429 employees was used who had been working at least one year in the current company. The sample, composed of workers from different industries, was collected in postgraduate programs of business schools from seven Latin American countries. A multi-group structural equation model was built with the involved variables, which adopted two different conditions: i.e., unconstrained and constrained questionnaire measurement weights. According to the results, leadership by itself is insufficient to promote employees innovative work behaviour. Transformational and transactional leadership exert effect on this behaviour only through absorptive capacity and work engagement respectively. Likewise, absorptive capacity and employee work ABOUT THE AUTHORThis paper belongs to a wider project entitled "Toward the construction of a new model of leadership to promotes Innovative Work Behaviour" which is developed by Universidad del Rosario in Bogotá Colombia and Universität Leipzig in Germany. The paper tests an exploratory model of the leadership influence on innovative work behavior and is the result of a collaborative work with colleagues from recognized schools of business in Latin-America, such as EGADE Business School in Mexico,
The “Signaling Theory” is a theoretical framework that investigates the content reported in sustainability reports, considering that through signaling, companies can influence stakeholders’ perceptions, create a competitive advantage and positively impact their corporate image. Signals can be classified into three types: camouflage, intent and necessity. By analyzing their sustainability reports, this study presents a step-by-step approach to classifying sustainability practices reported by companies according to the aforementioned types of signals. We propose a step-by-step approach based on a thematic and qualitative analysis that encourages replication by the research community. Details in the study will validate the proposed method and consider the lessons learned. A method is proposed that allows the sustainability practices reported by companies to be classified into camouflage, intent and necessity signals through their sustainability reports. A seven-step process for thematic analysis is described based on a qualitative research approach for achieving the above-mentioned goal. The classification of sustainability practices into the camouflage typology is a challenging process, as it tends to be biased, hence the identification of this type of signals in comparison with those of intent and necessity requires the adoption of measures that guarantee the reduction of bias on the part of the researcher.
Occupational hazards prevention is a managerial practice, which is currently fundamental to the companies' performance due to the competition's conditions. However, this topic is quite difficult to be implemented within the business management activities. Particularly, this is an interesting topic to study in the case of micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs). For this reason, to determinate the level of managing the prevention of hazards within MSMEs, it was applied a methodology of transversal descriptive approach by taking a sample of 88 formal small firms producers of capital goods in Santiago de Cali, Colombia. The data analysis was conducted with a logistic regression model that shows, as a result, the commitment of the direction, functional, and responsibilities level within the MSMEs is insufficient what allow us to conclude that these firms lowly manage the hazards and this influences their competitiveness.
IntroductionIn the context of higher education, the student experience (SX) has an important impact on student satisfaction and the perceived value of the training service received. For these reasons, higher education institutions (HEIs), which are focused on student-centred learning, need to know more about the experience that results from student interaction with the service and support systems that meet their needs in these institutions. However, despite the progress made in the analysis of SX, further research is still needed to know how to measure and manage it, and for this, it is essential to know the student’s perceptions.MethodsFor this reason, an SX scale was selected to have a suitable tool for experience management. Thus, the psychometric properties of the selected scale were evaluated in undergraduate students at two Colombian universities. The validation process consisted of an adaptation of the scale, a content validity analysis, an exploratory factor analysis and a confirmatory factor analysis.ResultsThe results were satisfactory showing the reliability and validity of the student experience scale in the context of universities.DiscussionTherefore, its cross-cultural goodness is confirmed in the student segment and it is suggested to perform this same process for other university audiences.
