The (Nb + In) co-doped TiO2 ceramics recently attracted considerable attention due to their colossal dielectric permittivity (CP) (∼100,000) and low dielectric loss (∼0.05). In this research, the 0.5 mol. % In-only, 0.5 mol. % Nb-only, and 0.5–7 mol. % (Nb + In) co-doped TiO2 ceramics were synthesized by standard conventional solid-state reaction method. Microstructure studies showed that all samples were in pure rutile phase. The Nb and In ions were homogeneously distributed in the grain and grain boundary. Impedance spectroscopy and I-V behavior analysis demonstrated that the ceramics may compose of semiconducting grains and insulating grain boundaries. The high conductivity of grain was associated with the reduction of Ti4+ ions to Ti3+ ions, while the migration of oxygen vacancy may account for the conductivity of grain boundary. The effects of annealing treatment and bias filed on electrical properties were investigated for co-doped TiO2 ceramics, where the electric behaviors of samples were found to be susceptible to the annealing treatment and bias field. The internal-barrier-layer-capacitance mechanism was used to explain the CP phenomenon, the effect of annealing treatment and nonlinear I-V behavior for co-doped rutile TiO2 ceramics. Compared with CaCu3Ti4O12 ceramics, the high activation energy of co-doped rutile TiO2 (3.05 eV for grain boundary) was thought to be responsible for the low dielectric loss.

This report presents a pressure-induced permanent metallization for MoS2 under non-hydrostatic conditions. Impedance and Raman spectra were measured to study the pressure-induced structural and electronic transformations of MoS2 at up to ∼25 GPa in diamond anvil cells under both non-hydrostatic and hydrostatic conditions. The results show evidence for isostructural hexagonal distortion from 2Hc to 2Ha and metallization at ∼17 GPa and ∼20 GPa under non-hydrostatic and hydrostatic conditions, respectively. Interestingly, the metallization is irreversible only under non-hydrostatic compression. We attribute this phenomenon to the incorporation of molecules of pressure medium between layers, which mitigate compressed stress and reduce interlayer interaction.

Ag(Nb0.8Ta0.2)O3 is used here as a model system to shed light on the nature of the low temperature phase behavior of the unsubstituted parent compound AgNbO3, which is an important material for high-power energy storage applications.

The structural, vibrational and electronic properties of ReS 2 were investigated up to ~34 GPa by Raman spectroscopy, AC impedance spectroscopy, atomic force microscopy and highresolution transmission electron microscopy, combining with first-principle calculations under two different pressure environments. The experimental results showed that ReS 2 endured a structural transition at ~2.5 GPa both under non-hydrostatic and hydrostatic conditions. We found that a metallization occurred at ~27.5 GPa under non-hydrostatic conditions and at ~35.4 GPa under hydrostatic conditions. The occurrence of distinct metallization point attributed to the influence of deviatoric stresses, which significantly affected the layered structure and the weak van der Waals interaction for ReS 2 .

BaTiO3 (BTO) nanofibers were fabricated by sol–gel combined with electrospinning method. The effects of the concentration of acetic acid and sintering temperatures on the crystal phase and microstructure of the samples were investigated by scanning electron microscopy, X‐ray diffraction, and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). BTO nanofibers with improved surface morphology were obtained as the ethanol to acetic acid ratio (E/A) was 8:3. The fibers calcined at 750°C for 2 h exhibited good morphology and crystallization. TEM studies revealed that the BTO nanofibers were polycrystalline, with diameters being on the order of hundreds nanometer, where the existence of domains offered proof of ferroelectric structure. The ferroelectric domains and piezoresponse of BTO nanofibers were characterized by piezoresponse force microscopy. The calculated d33 was 20 pm/V at maximum strain amplitude.

H2O ice becomes a superionic phase under the high pressure and temperature conditions of deep planetary interiors of ice planets such as Neptune and Uranus, which affects interior structures and generates magnetic fields. The solid Earth, however, contains only hydrous minerals with negligible amount of ice. Here we combine high pressure and temperature electrical conductivity experiments, Raman spectroscopy, and first-principles simulations, to investigate the state of hydrogen in the pyrite type FeO2Hx (x ≤ 1) which is a potential H-bearing phase near the coremantle boundary. We find that when the pressure increases beyond 73 GPa at room temperature, symmetric hydroxyl bonds are softened and the H + (or proton) become diffusive within the vicinity of its crystallographic site. Increasing temperature under pressure, the diffusivity of hydrogen is extended beyond individual unit cell to cover the entire solid, and the electrical conductivity soars, indicating a transition to the superionic state which is characterized by freely-moving proton and solid FeO2 lattice. The highly diffusive hydrogen provides fresh transport mechanisms for charge and mass, which dictate the geophysical behaviors of electrical conductivity and magnetism, as well as geochemical processes of redox, hydrogen circulation, and hydrogen isotopic mixing in Earth's deep mantle.Hydrogen plays an important role in the deep interior of the Earth 1,2 , where its mobility and bonding properties are altered dramatically from localized to globally itinerant with increasing depth.
