The relation between the learning environment (e.g., students' perceptions of the classroom goal structure and teachers' instructional discourse) and students' reported use of avoidance strategies (selfhandicapping, avoidance of help seeking) and preference to avoid novelty in mathematics was examined. Quantitative analyses indicated that students' reports of avoidance behaviors varied significantly among classrooms. A perceived emphasis on mastery goals in the classroom was positively related to lower reports of avoidance. Qualitative analyses revealed that teachers in high-mastery/low-avoidance and low-mastery/high-avoidance classrooms used distinctively different patterns of instructional and motivational discourse. High incidence of motivational support was uniquely characteristic of high-mastery/ low-avoidance classrooms, suggesting that mastery goals may include an affective component. Implications of the results for both theory and practice are discussed.
Metaiodobenzylguanidine (MIBG) myocardial scintigraphy is widely accepted as a beneficial tool for differentiating Parkinson's disease (PD) from other Parkinson-related disorders (PRD). In Japan, dopamine transporter (DAT) imaging, which can evaluate presynaptic degeneration of dopamine neurons, has been applied in clinics since 2014. The present study investigated the utility of [(123)I]-Ioflupane single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) combined with MIBG myocardial scintigraphy for the diagnosis of PD. We performed [(123)I]-Ioflupane SPECT and MIBG myocardial scintigraphy in 63 PD patients, 8 PRD patients and 1 essential tremor patient, and obtained the specific binding ratio (SBR [cut-off: 4.5]) and the heart-to-mediastinum ratio (H/M [cut-off: 2.2]). In 70% of the PD patients, both parameters were significantly reduced. In 22% of the PD patients, the SBR was smaller than 4.5 with normal H/M, and H/M was less than 2.2 with normal SBR in 5% of all subjects. Either the SBR or H/M was significantly reduced in 97% of the study population. The SBR showed low disease specificity to PD (11%), and the SBR and H/M negatively correlated with disease duration. These findings indicate that [(123)I]-Ioflupane SPECT combined with MIBG myocardial scintigraphy can improve the detection rate of PD. However, careful interpretation of these results is required because [(123)I]-Ioflupane SPECT poorly differentiates PD from PRD. Progression of PD may reflect the gradual reduction of isotope accumulation, hence, both [(123)I]-Ioflupane SPECT and MIBG myocardial scintigraphy should be tested repeatedly even in clinically suspected PD cases showing negative results.
Recommender systems have been proven to be valuable means for Web online users to cope with the information overload and have become one of the most powerful and popular tools in electronic commerce. The suggestions provided are aimed at supporting their users in various decision-making processes, such as what items to buy, what music to listen, or what news to read. In the paper, we introduce the uncertain interests of users because computer logs take down the data that have uncertain features. Consequently, user interest data recorded in computer logs is uncertain data. First of all the definition of uncertain interests are put forward. Then, some method using a clustering algorithm can solve the uncertain feature. In the algorithm, we compute the between-class entropy of any two clusters and get the stable classes. Secondly, because calculation input is uncertainty, the results of clustering algorithm are latent non-determinacy. The trustworthy degree of uncertain interests is defined that it can measure the rationality of clustering algorithm results. Thirdly, improvement of collaborative filtering is presented as an advanced CF algorithm based on trustworthy degree of uncertain interests. At last, we provide some evaluation of the algorithms and propose the more improve ideas in the future.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
