The aim of this study was to describe the speaking ability of the first grade students at SMPN 1 Pesisir in telling their daily activities. The design of this study was descriptive method. Cluster random sampling was used to select the sample. The total number of sample was 62 students’. The data were collected through speaking test. The data was measured by considering five components of speaking. Based on the findings of this study, students speaking ability were low. The findings were proved by the evidence that 85.49% of them cannot tell their daily activities orally. Based on the findings, this study was suggested for English teachers to consider the five components of speaking when measuring students’ speaking ability and English teachers were suggested to provide more practices for those components of speaking. The students were suggested to do more practices and improve their comprehension about material especially in speaking.
This study describes the situation of the New Normal learning period. Anxiety in the community who wants face-to-face learning to be carried out again. The method used is descriptive qualitative research method, namely research that describes the actual conditions. This research is used to analyze events, phenomena, or social realities by including analysis and interpretation of the problems studied. This research is expected to be able to see how the implementation of learning during the new normal is carried out in accordance with the provisions that apply during the covid 19 period that hit the city of Padang. Data obtained from various sources, data collection techniques through instruments carried out by researchers, such as observation, interviews and documentation. Research subjects are informants, namely people who provide a description of the current situation, namely a social situation or social situation which consists of three elements, namely place (palce), actors (actors), and activities (activity) that interact synergistically. Then the analysis and conclusion, the location of this research in the city of Padang. This study sees that in the implementation of the new normal learning period after being online for a long time, it must follow the applicable rules and careful preparation in the midst of the covid 19 virus siege. Considering further that many parents of elementary school students want to return to regular learning face to face. Judging from the results of this study, learning in the new normal period is carried out well if there is cooperation between teachers, students and parents in studying at home. Full guidance for children, and the readiness of parents to take their time and continue to carry out health protocols as a condition for face-to-face learning to be reopened.
This research started from researcher’ observation on English students’ ability that still low at seventh grade SMP N 1 Ranah Pesisir, and students’ opinion of English is bored and difficult. Based on the problems, this research purpose was to analyze students’ difficulties in understanding English learning, especially Reading Comprehension and Structure. The research method was descriptive qualitative. The research sampling was seventh grade students at SMPN 1 Ranah Pesisir, in choosing the sample was used purposive sampling technique. It was done because its class had mean score which low than others. More than 50 % of students got score under Minimum Completeness criteria. To get the data, the researcher had done interview for the students and English teacher, then done observation and document that were gotten the score of reading and structure material. From the result research were gotten that reading and structure understanding at seventh grade students SMP N 1 Ranah Pesisir, low. 40% from 25 students were difficulties in understanding them. The students difficulties of reading and structure understanding was caused less students’ concentration in learning, students’ learning habit which mistake, and students’ bored in English learning, beside teacher rarely did correction on students’ task.
That with the spread of the covid-19 virus, the teaching and learning process has turned into distance learning to limit the spread of the covid 19 virus. Online distance learning began in early March 2020. This requires educators to think about what methods and media will be used. used for the teaching and learning process. For this reason, learning videos (Youtube) are used in the classroom teaching process. The purpose of this study was to improve learning outcomes by applying learning videos (Youtube) in Class X TKJ 1 SMK Muhamadiyah 1 Padang. Based on the data analysis of the first cycle to the second cycle there is an increase in learning outcomes. The average student learning outcome in the first cycle was 82.57 with a percentage of 72.73%. At the end of the second cycle learning outcomes increased to 87.45 with a percentage of 91.34%. The minimum completeness standard in this study is 80 and the research indicator is determined that 80% of students complete above the SKM. In this study, there were 91.34% of students above the SKM. Based on the results of this study,the teachers in the field studies can use learning videos for online learning.
