13,14-Dihydroxy-8,11,13-podocarpatrien-7-one (1) and a series of ring C aromatic diterpene derivatives were synthesised from (+)-manool (4) and evaluated for their cytotoxic, leishmanicidal and trypanocidal activities. Our results indicated that compound 1 and other podocarpane-type intermediates are cytotoxic. Cleavage of C6-C7 bond of compound 7 improved cytotoxic activity, indicating that, in particular, the 6,7-seco-podocarpane-type compound 20 might serve as a lead compound for further development.
Vanadium catalysts supported on Al(Zr)-MCM-41-type materials were prepared by impregnation. Textural and structural properties, elemental composition and electronic structure were determined by N 2 physisorption, small-angle XRD, SEM-EDX and UV-vis DRS, respectively. Al-containing materials showed mostly of Al framework and a small fraction of Al extra-framework species. Zr-containing materials presented almost exclusively small clusters of Zr x O y covering the MCM-41 matrix. Vanadium catalysts, showed the presence of isolated V 5+ species and to a lesser extent polymeric chains likely as small crystallites of V 2 O 5. The catalytic results revealed that VAlM30 catalyst, characterized by a Si/Al atomic ratio of 30, was the most active in thiophene hydrodesulfurization, which could be associated to better textural properties and high dispersion of the vanadium species.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
