Background This study aimed to reveal the experiences of nurses in robotic surgery and their adaptation to this method. Methods This research was planned within the framework of qualitative research methods. The study population consisted of robotic surgery nurses in Turkey. Focus group interviews were conducted after the flow process was developed, and the interviews were supported using a semistructured interview form. Two focus interviews were conducted with 15 participants. Results As a result of the content analysis, 11 themes were created in four categories. The categories of the study were designed as follows: (1) Training in Robotic Surgery Nursing, (2) Adaptation to Technology in Robotic Surgery Nursing, (3) Changing Roles and Adaptation Process in Robotic Surgery Nursing, and (4) Future of Robotic Surgery. Conclusions The lack of clarity regarding the roles and responsibilities of robotic surgery nurses and the lack of arrangements for working conditions are thought to cause professional dissatisfaction and disengagement from work.
8.6 to 6.9 (p<0.01).Pain management quality monitoring survey scores were lower in 2013; however the differences were not signifi cant. Honesty, communication, intervention and environment scores decreased from 16.2 to 15.9, from 13.6 to 13.5, from 7.2 to 6.1, and from 25.4 to 23.6, respectively,
Fournier's gangrene is a rare, necrotizing fasciitis of the genitals and perineum caused by a mixture of aerobic and anaerobic microorganisms. This infection leads to complications including multiple organ failure and death. Due to the aggressive nature of this condition, early diagnosis is crucial. Treatment involves extensive soft tissue debridement and broad-spectrum antibiotics. Despite appropriate therapy, mortality is high. This case report aimed to present nursing approaches towards an elderly male patient referred to the urology service with a diagnosis of Fournier's gangrene.
Objective: The aim of this review was to evaluate the studies on family presence during cardiopulmonary resuscitation in Turkey.Material and Methods: Articles were screened which focused on cardiopulmonary resuscitation family presence in Turkey. The studies were identified by using computerized literature searches of the Pubmed/MEDLINE database. Five articles were found to be related to family presence during cardiopulmonary resuscitation in Turkey. Each of these studies has been described in terms of the following framework used to critique the five studies: summary of their aims, samples, methods, interventions and conclusions. Results: Four researches on this topic have been conducted to determine the health care professionals' and one to determine family members' opinions about the presence of family members during cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Findings of these studies revealed that the health care providers have different opinions about this practice. Health care professionals did not support the presence of families during cardiopulmonary resuscitation, and those who had taken part in family presence during cardiopulmonary resuscitation had negative experiences. Conclusion:Results from these data reveal that prevalent negative attitudes of health care professionals about family presence during cardiopulmonary resuscitation may arise from lack of a formal policy. Further studies are needed on a larger sample, and also studies evaluating the effects of different factors on family members of patients. (Yoğun Bakım Derg 2013; 4: 13-7)
IntroductionTracheostomy is defined as the surgical procedure for creating an opening at the 3rd or 4th cartilage ring in the anterior wall of the trachea to provide airway patency. It was known that tracheostomy is regarded as the oldest known life‐saving method. Tracheostomy care involves a complex care process that requires knowledge and skills for elderly patients and their caregivers. This study was conducted to investigate the effect of tracheostomy training, provided to caregivers of patients with tracheostomy, on caregivers’ burden and knowledge levels regarding the tracheostomy care.MethodsThe study population consists of caregivers who provide home care for patients with tracheostomy who were divided into two groups as the control group (n = 30) and the experimental group (n = 30) with the separation of the patients admitted to the outpatient clinic.ResultsIn the intergroup comparison of experimental and control group post‐test score averages, the difference between the Zarit Caregiver Burden Scale score averages and the mean knowledge scores was found to be statistically significant (p < 0.05).ConclusionIn line with these results, it may be advisable to perform repeated tests at regular intervals after the provision of education to the caregivers.
Background: The profound impact of empathy on quality nursing care has been recognized. Studies have shown that there has been little improvement in nurses' communication skills, and that they should work to enhance this area. Therefore, it is very important for qualified nursing care to determine empathic tendency and factors that affect in nursing students, so to teach empathic approach and professional values, to develop correct communication and helping skills to the students in nursing education. Objectives: In this study it was aimed to determine empathy tendency in nursing students and factors that affect emphatic tendency. Methods: The sample of this study that is sectional and definitive consisted of 225 students who received education in Nursing Department during 2013-2014 education year in Adıyaman University School of Health. Research data was collected with Personal Information Form and Emphatic Tendency Scale (ETS).Results :It was determined that 51.2% of the students participating in the survey were in the 20-22 age group, 65.3% were female and44.4% of them had 9 and close friends. It was determined that the average ETS score of the nursing students was 68.2 ± 10.3.The average ETS score of the female students was 69.3 ± 9.7, which was statistically significant difference (p = 0.028) than male students (66.1 ± 11.2). The average ETS score of the students who preferred nursing was 71.1 ± 8.0, and it was found to be statistically significantly higher than students have chosen nursing by family orientation, coincidence and other reasons (p = 0.001).Conclusion: According to the results of this study, it was seen the empathic tendencies of the nursing students are moderate and the average ETS score of the students are affected by the age, sex, place of living, number of close friends and reasons for choosing the profession.
