A dissolution–redeposition reaction mechanism of the MnO2 cathode is directly visualized in rechargeable aqueous zinc-ion batteries via in situ Raman microscopy. MnO2 is reduced to Mn3+ during the discharge process, followed by a disproportionation reaction to form Mn2+ and Mn4+. The dissolved Mn2+ plays an important role in the battery chemistry. During the following charge process, the redeposition of Mn2+ forms a species with high Zn-content on the surface of the MnO2 cathode in the high-potential window. Moreover, an effective method that allows in operando observation of Jahn–Teller distortion of manganese is provided for the first time. This method uses in situ Raman microscopy to reveal the correlation between Jahn–Teller distortion and Mn–O bond length change.

The sulfur-selenium doped carbon quantum dots (S,Se-CQDs) were synthesized by one-step through hydrothermal method in this study, which have high fluorescence quantum yield (43%) and advanced ability to scavenge reactive oxygen species (ROS). They were characterized by transmission electron microscope (TEM), nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). The results showed that the clearance rate of free radical reached to 40% with 200 μg/mL of S,Se-CQDs. The antioxidant activity of S,Se-CQDs is related to -SH and Se-SH on carbon quantum dots. S,Se-CQDs were able to access to cells which is beneficial to enhance the removal efficiency to ROS. In the biocompatibility experiment, the cell survival rate exceeded 95%, there was little effect on hatching rate, survival rate and heart rate of zebrafish which demonstrated that S,Se-CQDs have an excellent biocompatibility. It prompts that S,Se-CQDs will has proud application prospects in the field of biomedicine.

Objective To summarize the clinical features of secondary hyperparathyroidism (SHPT) in patients with chronic renal failure and to explore the predictive factors of postoperative hypocalcemia after total parathyroidectomy in these patients. Methods The clinical data of 87 patients admitted to Guangdong Electric Power Hospital from May 2013 to February 2020 were reviewed. All patients underwent total parathyroid resection and sternocleidomastoid microtransplantation. Age, sex, and the serum calcium, phosphorus, alkaline phosphatase (ALP), and intact parathyroid hormone (iPTH) concentrations were analyzed as predictive factors of postoperative hypocalcemia. Results Bone pain was the most common clinical manifestation in this study population, and all 87 patients experienced relief from their clinical symptoms after the surgical procedure. Age and the preoperative serum calcium, ALP, and iPTH concentrations were determined to be early predictive factors of postoperative hypocalcemia. Conclusions Age and the preoperative calcium, ALP, and iPTH concentrations are independent risk factors for postoperative hypocalcemia in patients with SHPT and renal disease who undergo total parathyroidectomy with sternocleidomastoid microtransplantation. These factors can help identify high-risk patients who can be managed by a multidisciplinary team to improve graft survival and quality of life.

Using data for the period 2000–2011, we construct province‐level real effective exchange rate (REER) indices for China and test the effect of REER depreciation on regional economic growth in a generalized method of moments regression framework. Our results show that REER depreciation, in general, promotes regional economic growth, through increasing net exports and lowering FDI costs. After dividing the full sample into coastal and inland subsamples, we find that REER depreciation influences economic growth in inland areas but not in coastal areas. This is due to the fact that the inland areas have more surplus labor or other resources to expand their production capacity when REER depreciation leads to increased world demand. Furthermore, compared to inland areas, processing‐and‐assembly trade comprises a larger share of trade in the coastal areas, where traders import more raw materials and intermediate goods to process and assemble goods. When the exchange rate depreciates, the costs of imported materials and immediate goods increase. In this case, the benefits from REER depreciation in coastal areas are offset to some extent and are thus lower than in inland areas.
