Objective : To evaluate the long-term consequences of survivors with COVID-19 one year after recovery, and to identify the risk factors associated with abnormal patterns in chest imaging manifestations, or impaired lung function. Methods : COVID-19 patients were recruited and prospectively followed up with symptoms, HRQoL (health-related quality of life), psychological questionnaires, 6MWT (6-minute walking test), chest CT, PFTs and blood tests. Multivariable logistic regression models were used to evaluate the association between the clinical characteristics and the chest CT abnormalities or the pulmonary function. Results : Ninety-four patients with COVID-19 were recruited between January 16 and February 6, 2021. Muscle fatigue and insomnia were the most common symptoms. Chest CT scan were abnormal in 71.28% of participants. Results of multivariable regression showed an increase odd in age. Ten patients had impairment of DLCO (diffusing capacity of the lung for carbon monoxide). Urea nitrogen concentration on admission was significantly associated with impaired DLCO. The level of IgG and the neutralizing activity were significantly lower compared with those at the early phase. Conclusions : One year after hospitalization for COVID-19, a cohort of survivors were mainly troubled with muscle fatigue and insomnia. Pulmonary structural abnormalities and pulmonary diffusion capacities were highly prevalent in surviving COVID-19 patients. It is necessary to intervene main target population for long-term recovery.

An increasing number of species are thought to have originated by homoploid hybrid speciation (HHS), but in only a handful of cases are details of the process known. A previous study indicated that Picea purpurea, a conifer in the Qinghai–Tibet Plateau (QTP), originated through HHS from P. likiangensis and P. wilsonii. To investigate this origin in more detail, we analysed transcriptome data for 114 individuals collected from 34 populations of the three Picea species from their core distributions in the QTP. Phylogenetic, principal component and admixture analyses of nuclear SNPs showed the species to be delimited genetically and that P. purpurea was admixed with approximately 60% of its ancestry derived from P. wilsonii and 40% from P. likiangensis. Coalescent simulations revealed the best‐fitting model of origin involved formation of an intermediate hybrid lineage between P. likiangensis and P. wilsonii approximately 6 million years ago (mya), which backcrossed to P. wilsonii to form P. purpurea approximately one mya. The intermediate hybrid lineage no longer exists and is referred to as a “ghost” lineage. Our study emphasizes the power of population genomic analysis combined with coalescent analysis for reconstructing the stages involved in the origin of a homoploid hybrid species over an extended period. In contrast to other studies, we show that these stages can in some instances span a relatively long period of evolutionary time.

It remains unknown how Ostryopsis intermedia B. Tian & J. Q. Liu (Betulaceae) originated in the SE Qinghai-Tibet Plateau (QTP). We examined sequence variations of two maternally inherited chloroplast (cp) DNA fragments and amplified fragment length polymorphisms (AFLP) of 32 populations for this species and two congeners, O. davidiana Decne. and O. nobilis Balf. f. W. W. Sm., distributed in northern China and the SE QTP. Each of the two distinct cpDNA haplotype groups was fixed by O. davidiana or O. intermedia, respectively, whereas both were found in O. nobilis. All analyses of AFLP suggested that O. intermedia is more closely related to O. davidiana than to O. nobilis and Bayesian clustering analysis (K ¼ 2) further suggested that the genomic composition of O. intermedia showed a slightly mosaic origin from the other two species, although mostly from O. davidiana. Analyses of AFLP indicated the highest nuclear genetic diversity for O. davidiana and lowest for O. intermedia. The origin of O. intermedia through hybrid speciation due to southward migration of O. davidiana and the following hybridization with O. nobilis may provide the most reasonable explanation for the inconsistency between phylogenetic relationships of three species and degrees of genetic diversity from cpDNA sequences or AFLP datasets. Ostryopsis intermedia may represent one more diploid hybrid species found in the QTP, although further strong tests are needed based on additional data.

Two new phenylethanoid glycosides, namely β-D-glucopyranoside, 1″-O-(7S)-7-(3-methoxyl-4-hydroxyphenyl)-7-methoxyethyl-3″-α-L-rhamnopyranosyl-4″-[(8E)-7-(3-methoxyl-4-hydroxyphenyl)-8-propenoate] (1) and β-D-glucopyranoside, 1″-O-(7S)-7-(3-methoxyl-4-hydroxyphenyl)-7-methoxyethyl-3″-α-L-rhamnopyranosyl-4″-[(8E)-7-(4-hydroxyphenyl)-8-propenoate] (2), together with six phenylethanoid glycosides were isolated from Cirsium setosum. Their structures were elucidated by their spectroscopic data and references. Compounds 2, 4, 5, 7 and 8 (10 μM) exhibited moderate hepatoprotective activities. Compounds (3-8) were obtained from this plant for the first time.
