This study shows the effective use of MXene-based nanomaterials to improve the performance of biocomposite sponges in wound healing. In this way, diverse chitin/MXene composite sponges are fabricated by incorporating MXene-based nanomaterials with various morphology (accordion-shaped, intercalated, single-layer, gold nanoparticles (AuNPs)-loaded single-layer) into the network of chitin sponge (CH), which can prevent massive blood losses and promote the healing process of bacterial-infected wounds. With the addition of MXene-based nanomaterials, the hemostatic efficacy of CH is enhanced due to the improved hemophilicity and accelerated blood coagulation kinetics. Furthermore, the composite sponges show a predominant antibacterial activity through the synergy between the capture and the photothermal effects. Importantly, the addition of AuNPs to composite sponges further improves hemostatic performance and promotes normal skin cell migration to heal the infected wound, achieving wound closure rates of 84% on day 9. These initial studies expand the applications of MXene-based nanomaterials in biomedical fields.
This paper reviews the studies and research on climate change impacts on the forest ecosystems in Northeast China. The results show that in the context of global and regional warming, the growing season of coniferous forests has been increasing at an average rate of 3.9 d per decade. Regional warming favors the growth of temperate broad-leaved forests and has a detrimental effect on the growth of boreal coniferous forests.
Heading and flowering are two key phenological stages in the growth process of winter wheat. It is of great significance for agricultural management and scientific research to accurately monitor and forecast the heading and flowering dates of winter wheat. However, the monitoring accuracy of existing methods based on remote sensing needs to be improved, and these methods cannot realize forecasting in advance. This study proposed an accumulated temperature method (ATM) for monitoring and forecasting the heading and flowering dates of winter wheat from the perspective of thermal requirements for crop growth. The ATM method consists of three key procedures: (1) extracting the green-up date of winter wheat as the starting point of temperature accumulation with the dynamic threshold method from remotely sensed vegetation index (VI) time-series data, (2) calculating the accumulated temperature and determining the thermal requirements from the green-up date to the heading date or the flowering date based on phenology observation samples, and (3) combining the satellite-derived green-up date, daily temperature data, and thermal requirements to monitor and forecast the heading date and flowering date of winter wheat. When applying the ATM method to winter wheat in the North China Plain during 2017–2019, the root mean square error (RMSE) for the estimated heading date was between 4.76 and 6.13 d and the RMSE for the estimated flowering date was between 5.30 and 6.41 d. By contrast, the RMSE for the heading and flowering dates estimated by the widely used maximum vegetation index method was approximately 10 d. Furthermore, the forecasting accuracy of the ATM method was also high, and the RMSE was approximately 6 d. In summary, the proposed ATM method can be used to accurately monitor and forecast the heading and flowering dates of winter wheat in large spatial scales and it performs better than the existing maximum vegetation index method.
Stylet penetration behaviors of Bemisia tabaci biotype B on two transgenic cotton lines “GK12” and “GK19” expressing Bt toxic protein Cry1A (Bt cotton) and a non‐Bt conventional cotton line “Simian‐3” (CK cotton) were recorded with the direct current electrical penetration graph (DC‐EPG) technique. Our results suggested that EPG waveform patterns, types and characteristics [non‐probe (NP), pathway (C), potential drops (pd) and phloem phase (E(pd))] of Bemisia tabaci biotype B were very similar on the three cotton lines. There were no obvious differences of pathway variables among whiteflies on the three cotton lines. Some phloem variables related to E(pd)1 differed. Duration of 1st E(pd)1 and mean duration of E(pd)1 on both GK12 and GK19 were significantly shorter than that on CK cotton (P < 0.05). Fewer whiteflies on GK have long E(pd)1. Other phloem variables including total duration of E(pd) summed, mean E(pd) duration and percentage of whiteflies reaching the phloem phase were similar among the three cotton lines.
