We present an approach to the momentum-space resummation of global, recursively infrared and collinear safe observables that can vanish away from the Sudakov region. We focus on the hadro-production of a generic colour singlet, and we consider the class of observables that depend only upon the total transverse momentum of the radiation, prime examples being the transverse momentum of the singlet, and φ * in Drell-Yan pair production. We derive a resummation formula valid up to next-to-next-to-next-to-leading-logarithmic accuracy for the considered class of observables. We use this result to compute state-of-the-art predictions for the Higgs-boson transverse-momentum spectrum at the LHC at next-to-next-to-next-to-leading-logarithmic accuracy matched to fixed next-to-next-to-leading order. Our resummation formula reduces exactly to the customary resummation performed in impact-parameter space in the known cases, and it also predicts the correct power-behaved scaling of the cross section in the limit of small value of the observable. We show how this formalism is efficiently implemented by means of Monte Carlo techniques in a fully exclusive generator that allows one to apply arbitrary cuts on the Born variables for any colour singlet, as well as to automatically match the resummed results to fixed-order calculations. arXiv:1705.09127v3 [hep-ph] 15 May 2018 2 Derivation of the master formulaWe consider the resummation of a continuously global, recursive infrared and collinear (rIRC) safe [41] observable V in the reaction pp → B, B being a generic colourless system with high invariant mass M . It is instructive to work out in detail the case of NLL resummation first. This will be done in Section 2.1, where we assume that the parton densities are independent of the scale. We then discuss the inclusion of higher-order corrections in Section 2.3, and the correct treatment of the parton luminosity will be dealt with in Section 2.3.2. Finally, in Section 2.4, we discuss the connection to the impact-parameter space formulation for transverse-momentum resummation.

The perturbative description of certain differential distributions across a wide kinematic range requires the matching of fixed-order perturbation theory with resummation of large logarithmic corrections to all orders. We present precise matched predictions for transverse-momentum distributions in Higgs boson (H) and Drell-Yan pair (DY) production as well as for the closely related φ * η distribution at the LHC. The calculation is exclusive in the Born kinematics, and allows for arbitrary fiducial selection cuts on the decay products of the colour singlets, which is of primary relevance for experimental analyses. Our predictions feature very small residual scale uncertainties and display a good convergence of the perturbative series. A comparison of the predictions for DY observables to experimental data at 8 TeV shows a very good agreement within the quoted errors.

This report summarises the physics opportunities for the study of Higgs bosons and the dynamics of electroweak symmetry breaking at the 100 TeV pp collider.

Abstract:We examine the constraints on the trilinear Higgs coupling λ that originate from associated (V h) and vector boson fusion (VBF) Higgs production in pp collisions in the context of the Standard Model effective field theory. The 1-loop contributions to pp → V h and pp → jjh that stem from insertions of the dimension-6 operator O 6 = −λ H † H 3 are calculated and combined with the O(λ) corrections to the partial decay widths of the Higgs boson. Employing next-to-next-to-leading order QCD predictions, we analyse the sensitivity of current and forthcoming measurements of the signal strengths in V h and VBF Higgs production to changes in λ. We show that future LHC runs may be able to probe modifications of λ with a sensitivity similar to the one that is expected to arise from determinations of double-Higgs production. The sensitivity of differential V h and VBF Higgs distributions to a modified h 3 coupling is also studied.

We present accurate QCD predictions for the transverse momentum (p ⊥ ) spectrum of electroweak gauge bosons at the LHC for 13 TeV collisions, based on a consistent combination of a NNLO calculation at large p ⊥ and N 3 LL resummation in the small p ⊥ limit. The inclusion of higher order corrections leads to substantial changes in the shape of the differential distributions, and the residual perturbative uncertainties are reduced to the few percent level across the whole transverse momentum spectrum. We examine the ratio of p ⊥ distributions in charged-and neutral-current Drell-Yan production, and study different prescriptions for the estimate of perturbative uncertainties that rely on different degrees of correlation between these processes. We observe an excellent stability of the ratios with respect to the perturbative order, indicating a strong correlation between the corresponding QCD corrections.
