Ao ingressar na faculdade, esse público adquire novos relacionamentos, maturidade, busca por sua identidade tanto pessoal quanto profissional, tendo em muitos casos que conciliar estudo e trabalho. As mudanças decorrentes podem refletir em seus hábitos alimentares, de forma que, por exemplo, tenham menor tempo para se alimentar. Por isso, cresce a demanda por refeições prontas e semiprontas, alimentos de fácil preparo, embalagens de fácil abertura, fechamento e descarte, com destaque para produtos para o preparo em forno de micro-ondas, além de serviços e produtos de delivery (BRASIL, 2013).As indústrias de alimentos, percebendo essa necessidade e mudança no ritmo de vida, têm desenvolvido e lançado cada vez mais alimentos industrializados. Outro apelo que as indústrias têm utilizado é o uso de termos técnicos como diet, light, rico em vitaminas, fonte de fibras, calorias reduzidas, livre de gordura trans, como forma de marketing em suas embalagens. No entanto, os universitários, sendo a parcela da sociedade com um poder crítico de percepção, realmente sabem o que cada termo desses significa? Qual o seu entendimento sobre os rótulos dos alimentos que consome?Portanto, este estudo teve por finalidade avaliar a compreensão das informações veiculadas em rótulos alimentícios e identificar as dificuldades na sua interpretação, assim como verificar os hábitos alimentares de universitários. Nesse contexto, verifica-se a relevância de avaliar o entendimento desse público com relação não só à rotulagem nutricional, mas também quanto à rotulagem nutricional complementar, já que essas alegações têm um apelo na decisão de compra.
