Aus einer bisher unbekannten Streptomyces‐Art, die als Str. chrysomallus bezeichnet ist, wurde Actinomycin C, ein rotes Antibioticum, isoliert, das Unterschiede gegenüber Actinomycin A und B aufweist. Durch energische Säurehydrolyse lassen sich aus Actinomycin C sechs Aminosäuren abspalten, die als l‐Threonin, d‐Valin, Sarkosin, d‐Allo‐isoleucin, l‐Prolin und N‐Methyl‐l‐valin identifiziert wurden. Bei der Hydrolyse mit Bariumhydroxyd entsteht eine rote, kristallisierte Verbindung, die dem chromophoren Teil des Actinomycins C entstammt. Die Actinomycine sind eine neuartige Gruppe von Naturstoffen, in denen eine chromophore Komponente wahrscheinlich peptidartig mit verschiedenen Aminosäuren verbunden ist.
