Differentiated instruction has been a buzz word in Philippine education for many years. Educators utilize differentiated approach in teaching to maximize and meet the expected learning outcomes. Previous study pointed out that students vary in terms of learning style and understanding the concept. This study aims to identify the role of differentiated instruction in teaching reading and promoting comprehension in basic education. This paper looked at four differentiated instructional strategies for teaching guided reading: Noting details, sequencing events, getting the main idea and predicting outcomes. Moreover, it seeks to determine the multiple intelligence profile and the performance in reading comprehension of the students. It also determines whether a significant correlation exists between the profile and the performance of the students. Data were generated using adapted multiple intelligences inventory instruments and written passages, prescribed curriculum by the Department of Education. The data obtained were analyzed using weighted mean, standard deviation, and chi-square. The findings revealed that students learned from all aspects of intelligence they have, no matter what the situation is. This was so intriguing because it was known that every individual has different learning intelligence. Pedagogically, the findings recommended that educators need to innovate to help meet the needs of diverse learners, enriched reading activities, and differentiated instructions must be integrated to strengthen learner competence in basic reading comprehension. The surprising finding is that, though students learn differently, there are also some learning contexts, which students shared with the same entity. Therefore, teachers must recognize that students have different versions of learning.
The study of prototype learning activity has received significant attention to elevating students’ academic performance. This study utilized the prototype learning design as a significant predictor of students’ performance and the like. In addition, this study aimed to explore teachers’ strategies for measuring students’ creative growth utilizing authentic assessments. Moreover, this study used a survey to assess the perception of the students and teachers. The study used the quantitative inferential which provides the relationship between the two variables' effectiveness and perception of the prototype learning activities. The main instrument used to ascertain these parameters are the two survey questionnaires was researcher-made align with the Department of Education Science competency, the reliability and consistency were validated by the statistician. Results revealed that students’ performance was at a high level when engaged in the prototype learning activity. Furthermore, the perception of the students and teachers in terms of ease of use, relevance, and comprehensibility indicates positive perception in relation to the student's performance. Finally, the prototype-based learning approach shows a promising effect on the performance of the student's and teachers' perceptions. Hence, enhancement training in developing a teacher’s capacity to design meaningful learning that caters students' needs should be provided. Species diversity of holothurians in CamotesIslands, Cebu Philippines were studied as baseline data for resource and ecological management.
Camotes Islands is noted of its Camotes Sea as one of the fishing grounds in the Philippines. Extraction of the marine resources including holothurians in this fishing ground has been felt by the fishermen; hence, this study was conducted in order to find out its gleaning methods used, species gleaned, extraction rate and perception on the distribution of holothurians in the four municipalities of Camotes Islands which are San Francisco, Poro, Tudela and Pilar. Interview guide and actual field visits in the areas were used to gather the data. Results show that gleaning methods of gathering holothurians in Camotes Islands were handpicking, using bolo, water goggles, pointed wood, iron bars and by spears both in day and night operations. Frequently gleaned sea cucumber spe cies are Stichopus hermanni, Bohadschia paradoxa, Bohadschia marmorata, Stichopus horrens, Holothuria nobilis, Stichopus variegatus and Holothuria pulla which are also the species that were caught throughout the year. The size of the Holothurians gathered measures from 5-10 cm and the perceived distribution distance of gleaned holothuria in the site is 1-5 m. The amount of catch is 1/2 kilo per 1-2 hours gleaning time followed by "no catch" and the third is 0.51 to 1.0 kg and the gleaning frequency of holothurians in the entire Camotes Islands is 2-4 times a week.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
