Anthrop. 18, 363 bis 369 (1934).Bei Funden natfirlich mumifizierter Leichen in Stidafrika wandte Verf. ein Ver-~ahren an, dutch das die natfirliche Hautfarbe und die Struktur der Haut, Muskeln, Fascien, Gef/iSe usw: wieder erkennbar wurde. Das Alter der Leichen war etwa 150--200 gahre. Die Leichenteile wurden in alkoholische SodalSsung (1 mg Natron-!auge odor Xtzsoda auf 100 Teile 33proz. Alkohol) gebracht. Nach 8--14ti~gigem Liegen in dieser LSsung werden sie 12 Stunden in fliel~endem Wasser gewaschen, 1 Woche in 10proz. Formalinl5sung gelegt und zuletzt in 90proz. Alkohol gehs G. Die genaue Messung des Sch/~delinhalts kann dutch gleichzeitige RSntgenaufnahme w/ihrend der Ffillung der Sch/idelkapscl kontrollicrt werden. Benutzt wurde die von Broca angegebene Mischung. Bei 10 Ausmessungen desselben Schi~dels zeigten sich nut geringe Schwankungen, diese betrugen bei einem dolichocephalen Schs 1457 his 1673 ccm. Bei einigen pr/ihistorischen Sch/ideln waren die eingeftihrten Mengen sehr viel geringer. Jedenfalls kann mit Hilfe des RSntgenbildes kontrolliert werden, ob die Ffillung des Sch/idels mit der Ffillmasse vollsti~ndig ist oder nicht. Die Methodik mu$ im Original nachgelesen werden. G.
