A form of water with properties very different from those well established for water has been reported in a series of papers by Deryagin and coworkers (1). Water in this unusual state has been called "anomalous water" by this group to distinguish it from ordinary water. It has been prepared in two ways. As described by Fedyakin (2), secondary columns were observed growing near both ends of a column of water sealed in a glass capillary 2 to 4 ,tm in diameter. In subsequent work, the anomalous water was prepared by the condensation of water vapor in glass and fused quartz capillaries at relative pressures somewhat less than unity (3). Some of the reported properties of this water are (i) low vapor pressure; (ii) solidification at -40°C or lower temperatures to a glass-like
Factors which contribute to measurement errors associated with the use of radiotracers to measure protein adsorption are considered. Techniques for removal of excess adsorbent solution and for estimation of surface area are described. Artifacts induced by the incorporation of a radio-label both by specific adsorption of the labeling atom and by changes in the protein are discussed.

The rate of adsorption is very d ep endent on t he cOllecntration of t h e poly mer solution, a nd t imes vary ing from minutes to sever al hours wcre r equ ired before maximum adsorption occurred for th e concen t ration ra nge studied. Th e ra te of d esorption is strongly dependent on t he adsorbance; it was hypo t hes ized that t his is d ue to t he number of attachme nts per molec ule also va ry in g with adsorbance. The conformatio n of the adso rbrd molecule as indicated by these res ults a nd those determined by t he measurement of th e thickncss of the adso rbed laycr by ellipsometr y is disc ussed.
