High protein feeds such as soybean meal are necessary for improvement of livestock performances. Thailand is the fourth largest importer of soybean meal in the world, importing 2.9 million tons per year (USDA, 2018a). However, the price for imported soybean meal is still expensive, and it was 14.57 baht/kg (U.S. $0.429/kg) in 2017 (USDA, 2018b). Thus, there is a need for alternative ingredients with high protein content in Thailand (Wanapat, 2004). The monosodium glutamate (MSG) is widely used as a seasoning and produced about 1.8 million tons in the world (Nakamura, 2008). Thailand is one of the major manufacturing countries of MSG. The manufacturing MSG produces a by-product of mother liquor (ML) containing much crude protein (CP) as non-protein nitrogen: glutamate and ammonium sulfate (Padunglerk, Prasanpanich, & Kongmun, 2017), thus, it could be utilized as the replacement of soybean meal for ruminants. However, the studies on the ML have been mainly for utilization as fertilizer (
