Se evaluó las características nutricionales y de digestibilidad de los residuos de la producción de cacao (Theobroma cacao L.) en el cantón La Troncal: cascara, cascarilla y placenta de cacao en los materiales genéticos ARRIBA y CCN-51. Fue determinada la composición química de las muestras en base a materia seca a través del análisis proximal (materia seca, humedad, proteína cruda, cenizas, grasa, fibra cruda, extracto libre de nitrógeno); Determinación de fibra (fibra detergente neutra FDN, fibra detergente ácida FDA y lignina detergente neutra LDA); Valor energético (energía bruta); y degradabilidad de la materia seca in situ en bovinos fistulados a nivel del rumen, utilizando animales de genética Brahman mestizos de 450 Kg ± 20 Kg de peso vivo. Las muestras fueron incubadas dentro del rumen mediante bolsas de nylon, durante 0, 3, 6, 12, 24, 48, 72 y 96 horas. Los resultados mostraron valores aceptables para la alimentación de bovinos en base al contenido de nutrientes, fibra, energía bruta y degradabilidad. En conclusión, los residuos de la producción de cacao (cascara, cascarilla y placenta de cacao) en las variedades (ARRIBA y CCN-51) pueden ser utilizadas como materias primas alternativas para alimentación animal o como ingredientes dentro de la formulación de dietas para rumiantes.
