Palavras-chaves: Anomalocardia brasiliana; dinâmica populacional; densidade; rio Paciência AbstractMollusk occurrence in Maranhão coast is significant, serving as sources of income and livelihood for many communities. An example of mollusk species related to this potential is the Anomalocardia brasiliana (Gmelin, 1791), which has great importance for the population of Raposa -Maranhão State, on Maranhão Island. Monthly, samples were collected during August to December 2010 and March to June 2011, that carried out important information such as biometric data, condition factor and density. These variables showed that the bodies-size throughout the sampling period, except that of August, are suitable for human consume, averaging over 20mm. Therefore, it was also observed a decreased of the condiction factor in the months of August and December, probably related to stress, such as the spawing period of the species or anthropogenic pressure in the region, as there is a large extraction in the site, through an unsustainable way. The density of organisms was high in terms of biomass, which showed that an average of 3.16 tons in an area of 6,007.5 m², which compared with extensive cattle farms, depending on management, it becomes more productive, economically, ecologically and financially.

SALINE INTRUSION IN A TROPICAL RIVER – FLOODPLAIN SYSTEM INFLUENCED BY MACRO-TIDES – PINDARÉ RIVER (MA), BRAZIL: The lower course of the Pindaré River is part of a river-floodplain complex that has high dynamism, mainly in its water level, physical and chemical parameters, as a result of the rainy season and also high tides during dry season. The present study aimed to evaluate the saline intrusion in the lower course of the Pindaré River, up to the vicinity of the city of Cajari, through the water physical and chemical variables. Six campaigns were carried out at seven sampling stations from December 2014 to February 2016. The parameters measured were total suspended solids (TSS), transparency (Secchi), and temperature, electrical conductivity, salinity, pH, dissolved oxygen, oxy-redox potential and percentage of oxygen in water using the YSI® model 556 multiparameter. Water transparency (25 cm) and percentage of dissolved oxygen (85%) showed higher values in the área under less tidal influence and lower values in the area with high tidal influence (12 cm and 65%, respectively), while salinity, electrical conductivity and pH had higher values in the zone with high tidal influence (2 g kg-1; 5,100 µS cm-1 and 7.6, respectively). TSS values ranged from 10.2 to 400.1 mg L-1, 40 km and 25 km from the outfall of the Pindaré River, respectively, that is the higher turbulence effect the closer to the mouth during the spring tide in dry season. Variations in the parameters were observed, indicating that the saline intrusion in the lower course of the Pindaré River influences the water physical and chemical parameters in the dry season, especially in the spring tides. The increase in freshwater discharge from the river and the high water level in the rainy season induced characteristics of freshwater in the studied section of the river.
