This study examines the effect of agglomeration economies on productivity growth in Indonesian manufacturing industries during the first decade of this century. Productivity growth is measured at the firm level using the Färe‐Primont Productivity Index. Each firm's productivity growth is then regressed against a set of firm and industry characteristics, including three measures of agglomeration representing the effects of specialisation, diversity and competition. The results show evidence of a positive specialisation effect and a negative diversity effect for aggregate manufacturing and sub‐sectors. Furthermore, there are mixed effects across industries, suggesting that Porter's competition externalities stimulate firm productivity growth under some conditions but not others.
<em><span style="font-size: 11pt;">The objectives of this research are: (1) to analyze the influence of organic farming practice to the economic sustainability of farmers; (2) to compare the complexity level of organic farming practice and conventional farming practice based on farmer’s perception; and (3) to investigate causal factors regarding why organic farming practice is not widely adopted by farmers. This research was conducted by using quantitative approach at Ketapang Village, Susukan Subregency, Semarang Regency, Central Java on November-December 2010. The number of respondents in this research was 79 people from the total population target of farmers. The selected respondents determined through stratified random sampling and simple random sampling technique afterwards. The respondents were devided into two groups: experimental group (organic farmers) and control group (conventional farmers). The kinds of data in this research were: primary quantitative data which collected by spreading questionnaire to the respondents; secondary data from Al-Barokah’s document; and also supported with primary qualitative data which gathered from in depth interview technique. The data were analyzed by using Paired Samples T-test and Kolmogorov-Smirnov Test, supported with SPSS Program for Windows Version 17.0. The results of this research show that organic farming practice has significant positive influence to the economic sustainability of farmers. Nevertheless, organic farming practice is considered more complex or difficult significantly than conventional farming practice based on control group’s perception. Conversely, the fact above doesn’t valid for experimental group. There are several causal factors regarding why organic farming practice is not widely adopted by farmers, such as: pragmatic mindset of farmers in viewing organic farming practice and ecological sustainability; farmers are not satisfied if they only use organic fertilizers for rice that make its leaf green color become less visible; organic farming practice doesn’t ensure pest-free; the use of organic fertilizer is more difficult than synthetic fertilizer; and a large part of farmers have inadequate supply of manures. Socio-economic characteristic of farmers consisting of: education level, agricultural land ownership status, and livestock ownership are also revealed as influential factors to the organic farming decision process. </span></em>
The developments of the world trade requires the improvement of the competitiveness of products, including agricultural commodities. At the regional level, Indonesias agricultural commodities face the ASEAN free market competition. This study aims to identify and examine the competitiveness of Indonesian exports of several agricultural commodities in the international market by employing the index of competitiveness of trade specialization by trade specialization index (TSI), and the index of market penetration, by revealed comparative advantage (RCA). This study observed the HS 4 digit agricultural commodities, along 2011-2015. The study finds that the index of commodity trade specialization of estate crops sub-sector is in a stage of maturation of the world trade, or it has a very strong competitiveness. The food crops sub-sector stand on the introduction stage of the world trade or it has low competitiveness, or in other words, Indonesia is a net importer of the sector commodities. Although some of commodities have the strong competitiveness, but on the other hand, they do not have a strong comparative advantage. This is shown by the RCA value that less than 1. Stroke adalah suatu penyakit cerebrovascular dimana terjadinya gangguan fungsi otak yang berhubungan dengan penyakit pembuluh darah yang mensuplai darah ke otak. Seperempat dari seluruh kejadian stroke adalah stroke. Faktor yang mempengaruhi stroke diantaranya kebiasaan meminum kopi, perilaku merokok, kurangnya aktifitas fisik, tidak melakukan kontrol tekanan darah secara rutin, dan stres. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mengetahui faktor-faktor risiko yang mempengaruhi kejadian stroke di RS PKU Muhammadiyah Sruweng. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode korelasional dengan pendekatan cross-sectional. Sampel dalam penelitian ini adalah 38 pasien yang diambil secara simple random sampling. Instrumen berupa lembar kuesioner. Data dianalisa menggunakan analisa deskriptif dan korelatif menggunakan uji chi square. Hasil penelitian didapatkan tidak ada pengaruh kebiasaan meminum kopi dan merokok dengan kejadian stroke. Ada pengaruh pengaruh aktifitas fisik, kontrol tekanan darah secara rutin, dan stres dengan kejadian stroke. Penelitian selanjutnya dapat dikembangkan dengan melakukan penelitian intervensi seperti memberikan penyuluhan terkait cara meningkatkan aktifitas fisik, dan menurunkan stres serta keteraturan minum obat. Kata kunci: faktor risiko, aktifitas fisik, tekanan darah, stres, stroke THE RISK FACTORS THAT INFLUENCE THE INCIDENCE OF STROKE ABSTRACT Stroke is a cerebrovascular disease in which the occurrence of brain function disorders associated with vascular disease that supplies blood to the brain. A quarter of all stroke events are strokes. Factors affecting stroke include coffee drinking habits, smoking behavior, lack of physical activity, not exercising routine blood pressure control, and stress. The purpose of this study was to determine the risk factors that influence the incidence of stroke in PKU Muhammadiyah Sruweng Hospital. This study uses a correlational method with a cross-sectional approach. The sample in this study was 38 patients taken by simple random sampling. The instrument was in the form of a questionnaire sheet. Data were analyzed using descriptive and correlative analysis using chi square test. The results showed there was no effect of the habit of drinking coffee and smoking with the incidence of stroke. There is an influence of physical activity, routine blood pressure control, and stress with the incidence of stroke. Further research can be developed by conducting intervention studies such as providing counseling related to how to increase physical activity, and reduce stress and regular medication.
